Charlotte County Redfish
The Charlotte County Redfish were a short-lived minor league baseball team based in Port Charlotte, Florida. The club was a member of the South Coast League and played their home games at Charlotte County Stadium. The club was slated to have 45 home games, however the Redfish played host to nine more when the Bradenton Juice were not permitted to use Robert C. Wynn Baseball Field after just four home dates. The Redfish began the season managed by Jackie Hernández, who had helped the Pittsburgh Pirates win the 1971 World Series. However Hernández was replaced after just managing 25 games for the Redfish. He was replaced by the team's hitting coach, former Detroit Tigers star Cecil Fielder. During the final three games of the season Tampa Bay Devil Rays outfielder Elijah Dukes served as first base coach during a suspension by the Devil Rays. South Coast League
The South Coast League of Professional Baseball (SCL), based in Conyers, Georgia, was a professional, independent baseball organization located in the Southeastern United States. It operated in cities not served by Major or Minor League Baseball teams and was not affiliated with either. It folded after its first season in 2007. History The league was formed in October 2006. The Tampa Bay Rays are an American professional baseball team based in St. Petersburg, Florida. The Rays compete in Major League Baseball (MLB) as a member club of the American League (AL) East division. Since its inception, the team's home venue has been Tropicana Field. Charlotte County is a U.S. county located in the U.S. state of Florida. As of the 2020 census, the population was 186,847. Its county seat is Punta Gorda. Charlotte County comprises the Punta Gorda, FL Metropolitan Statistical Area, which is included in the North Port-Sarasota, FL Combined Statistical Area. Anderson Joes
The Anderson Joes were a minor league baseball club that existed in 2007. The team was based in Anderson, South Carolina and was named after outfielder Shoeless Joe Jackson, who grew up in the local area. The team played as a member of the independent South Coast League. The Joes began the season with Desi Wilson, a former first baseman with the San Francisco Giants, serving as the team's manager. However, midway through the season, he left the position of manager and was activated as a player. He was then traded to the South Georgia Peanuts where he served as a player-coach for the remainder of the season. Wilson was replaced at the position by veteran minor league manager Kash Beauchamp. Elijah David Dukes, Jr. (born June 26, 1984) is an American former professional baseball player. A right-handed outfielder, he played in Major League Baseball for the Tampa Bay Devil Rays and Washington Nationals. Charlotte Sports Park (formerly known as Charlotte County Stadium and Ranger Stadium) is a baseball stadium in Port Charlotte, Florida. The stadium is the home field for Tampa Bay Rays spring training operations, as well as its Rookie-class Florida Complex League Rays teams. From 2009 to 2020, it also hosted the Charlotte Stone Crabs of the Class A-Advanced Florida State League.
