Charlie Nash (boxer)
Charlie Nash (born 1951 in Derry, Northern Ireland), is a retired Irish boxer. As an amateur he held an Irish national title and represented Ireland in the 1972 Olympic Games. As a professional he won the professional British and then European lightweight titles but lost to Jim Watt, when he challenged him for the World Boxing Council title. He has given several interviews about having to check several bodies laid out in a hospital morgue in order to identify that of his brother William, who was killed during the Bloody Sunday massacre. Amateur career Nash was a member of his local St. Mary's boxing club, and won the junior championships at provincial level. After winning the senior title in Ulster in 1969 Nash then won the Irish National Senior Title in 1970. Jan Antoni Szczepański (20 November 1939 in Małecz – 15 January 2017 in Warsaw) was a Polish boxer, who won the gold medal in the lightweight division (– 60 kg) at the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich, West Germany. Giuseppe "Joe" Gibilisco (born 1 May 1954) is an Italian former professional boxer who held the European lightweight title from 1981 to 1983. Career After emigrating with his family, he began his professional career in Australia with initially favorable results and then with ups and downs. On 7 October 1977 Gibilisco challenged Billy Mullholland for the Australian lightweight title, losing via points decision over fifteen rounds. He returned to Italy in the spring of 1978, managed by Umberto Branchini, and obtaining nine victories and only one draw, against Lucio Cusma, on 11 July 1979, in Rimini. On 10 May 1981, he defeated Charlie Nash in Dublin via sixth-round knockout (KO) to capture the European lightweight title. He successfully defended his European title against Jose Luis Heredia, scoring a ninth-round KO on 21 October in Taormina. Mickey Duff (7 June 1929 – 22 March 2014), was a Polish-born British boxer, matchmaker, manager and promoter. Early life Duff was born Monek Prager to a Jewish family in Tarnów, Poland on 7 June 1929. His father, a rabbi, helped the family flee the Nazis and emigrate to England in the late 1930s. Career in boxing Four-year career as boxer Duff became a professional boxer aged fifteen, and boxed for four years. According to Mickey, he chose the name Duff from the character, "Jackie-Boy Duffy" from the movie ''Cash and Carry'', though the character actually came from the 1941 boxing movie, ''Ringside Maisie''.
