''Charlie's Angels'' is an American media franchise created by Ivan Goff and Ben Roberts and owned by Sony Pictures Entertainment, which began with the original television series of the same name. The franchise follow the adventures of the Angels, a team of women working for the Townsend Agency, a private secret agent agency, under the leadership of Charlie Townsend, their unseen boss. The original television series enjoyed huge popularity with audiences and was a top ten hit in the Nielsen ratings for its first two seasons. Following its cancellation in 1981, the series continues to have a 1970s American cult and pop culture following through syndication and DVD releases. ''Charlie Hebdo'' (; meaning ''Charlie Weekly'') is a French satirical weekly magazine, featuring cartoons, reports, polemics, and jokes. Stridently non-conformist in tone, the publication has been described as anti-racist, sceptical, secular, and within the tradition of left-wing radicalism, publishing articles about the far-right (especially the French nationalist National Front party), religion (Catholicism, Islam and Judaism), politics and culture. The magazine has been the target of three terrorist attacks: in 2011, 2015, and 2020. All of them were presumed to be in response to a number of cartoons that it published controversially depicting Muhammad. Charlie is a line of women's and men's fragrances produced by the American cosmetic and perfume house Revlon. On June 16, 2022, its parent, Revlon, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. Advertising Charlie, named after Charles Revson, was released in 1973. It was originally launched to compete with Estée, a fragrance released by Estée Lauder. Ad campaigns for the scent featured models Shelley Hack, Charly Stember, and, notably, Naomi Sims, making Sims the first African American woman in history to be featured in a cosmetic company's advertising. Television ads featured Shelley Hack and jingles sung by Bobby Short and Mel Tormé. Young, working women were set as the target audience, and the ads were said to represent the "new woman" of the era. Charlie, also known as Charlie the Curser was a female blue-and-yellow macaw who lived for decades in a garden centre in Reigate, Surrey, England. Claimed association with Churchill The owner claimed the parrot was that of Sir Winston Churchill while he was prime minister during World War II. Charlie, Texas
Charlie is a small unincorporated community in northern Clay County. The town is located on FM 810, about 21 miles north of Henrietta and is about 20 miles northeast of Wichita Falls. History The town was founded in 1878 as Big Wichita Valley. Henry T. Dunn built a small general store just south of the Red River and later sold the store to Charlie Taylor in the early 1880s. The town was later renamed after Taylor and a post office opened in 1882. By the mid-1920s, the town's population had surpassed 200. The town's population went down during the Great Depression and World War II, with the post office closing in the 1930s. Charlie Chop-off is the pseudonym given to an unidentified American serial killer known to have killed three black children and one Puerto Rican child in Manhattan between 1972 and 1973. This assailant is also known to have attempted to murder one other child. All the victims of this assailant were male, and the majority of murders committed by this individual involved the genital mutilation or attempted genital mutilation of the victims. Charlie (skeleton)
Charlie is the name given to a Neolithic skeleton of a three-year-old child found near the ancient stone circle of Avebury, Wiltshire, England. Charlie was excavated from Windmill Hill, Avebury in the 1920s and is currently on display at the Alexander Keiller Museum at Avebury. There is a certain amount of controversy surrounding the display of the skeleton. The Council of British Druid Orders (CoBDO) demanded that the skeleton be reburied where it was found, or as near as is practically possible, claiming that putting a skeleton in a museum ''as an attraction'' is disrespectful. The archaeological community fear that reburying Charlie will lead to a dangerous precedent being set. Historians have also argued that Charlie's skeleton should be kept in a museum so it is available for research. Charlie (born Horváth Károly in Ondód, Hungary, 28 October 1947) is a Hungarian rock and soul singer. Biography Originally a ballet dancer, Charlie began singing with Hungarian rock bands in the mid-1960s, and became known nationally as a member of Decca and Olympia. In the 1970s he spent two years in Africa and led a band called Afriaca, which inspired a new interest in funk and soul music. Upon returning to Hungary, he started the band Generál, which toured throughout Europe and released two albums before disbanding in 1979. In 1982 he formed the band Pannonia Express which toured internationally throughout the decade. In 1989, Charlie formed the soul act Tátrai Band with guitarist Tibor Tátrai.
