Charlie Biton
Charlie-Shalom Biton ( he, צ'רלי-שלום ביטון; born 11 April 1947) is an Israeli social activist and former politician who served as a member of the Knesset for Hadash and the Black Panthers between 1977 and 1992. Biography Charlie Biton was born in Casablanca in Morocco. His family immigrated to Israel in 1949 when he was two years old. He grew up in Musrara neighbourhood of Jerusalem and attended an ORT vocational school. In 1971 he was one of the founders of the Israeli Black Panthers movement, along with Sa'adia Marciano, Reuven Abergel, and Eli Avichzer. In 1974, he was sentenced to seven months in prison for assaulting a police officer. He went into hiding to avoid his sentence, and was later pardoned. Political career As the Black Panthers became aligned with Hadash, Biton was elected to the Knesset on the party's list in 1977. He was re-elected in 1981, 1984 and 1988. Daphni Leef
Daphni Leef ( he, דפני ליף; born 7 January 1986) is an Israeli social activist, video artist, and editor. In July 2011 she initiated the 2011 Israeli Social Justice Protest that took place in Tel Aviv and were the largest social protests in Israel's history. Following the civil protest Leef focused on issues regarding fair housing in Israel and established various independent social projects. In 2017 Leef debuted the first movie she directed named '' Before My Feet Touch the Ground'', which is a documentary about the 2011 protest from her personal perceptive. The film was chosen to open the Docaviv - Tel Aviv International Documentary Film Festival in May 2017, and was part of the official selection of the 2017 International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam. Elections for the 13th Knesset were held in Israel on 23 June 1992. The election resulted in the formation of a Labor government, led by Yitzhak Rabin, helped by the failure of several small right wing parties to pass the electoral threshold. Voter turnout was 77.4%. The Black Panther Party (BPP), originally the Black Panther Party for Self-Defense, was a Marxist-Leninist and black power political organization founded by college students Bobby Seale and Huey P. Newton in October 1966 in Oakland, California.
