Charles L. Waddell
Charles Lindy Waddell (May 13, 1932 – July 19, 2022) was an American politician who served for 26 years as a member of the Virginia Senate. He left the Senate to serve as deputy Virginia Secretary of Transportation, transportation secretary to Governor Jim Gilmore. At his retirement, he was chairman of the Senate transportation committee. Before serving as senator, Waddell served one term on the Loudoun County Board of Supervisors, representing the Broad Run (Loudoun County, Virginia), Broad Run District from 1968 to 1971. In 1998 he married Jane Rankin Herring, the mother of future 33rd District Senator and Virginia Attorney General, Mark Herring. After Jane's death in 2017, he resided in Leesburg, Virginia. Virginia's 33rd Senate District
Virginia's 33rd Senate district is one of 40 districts in the Senate of Virginia. It has been represented by Democrat Jennifer Boysko since a 2019 special election to replace fellow Democrat Jennifer Wexton, who had been elected to Congress. Geography District 33 is split between Loudoun and Fairfax Counties in the suburbs of Washington D.C., including some or all of Leesburg, Cascades, Ashburn, Sterling, Brambleton, McNair, and Herndon. Washington Dulles International Airport is also within the district lines. The district overlaps with Virginia's 10th and 11th congressional districts, and with the 10th, 32nd, 33rd, 34th, 36th, 67th, 86th, and 87th districts of the Virginia House of Delegates.
