Charles Hector Fernandez (born 4 July 1971) is a Malaysian human rights advocate and activist. Early life He was born in Temerloh, Temerloh District, Pahang, Malaysia, on 4 July 1971, whereby his parents were C. S. Fernandez and May Florence Gomez. His His primary schooling was in Sekolah Rendah Jalan Bahagia, Temerloh. His lower secondary education was in Sekolah Menengah Rendah Jalan Bahagia (Form 1–3), and thereafter Sekolah Menengah Abu Bakar (Form 4–5). He then continued his upper secondary education in Sekolah Sultan Abu Bakar, Kuantan, Pahang during which he also held the position of President of the Sixth Form Society. After that, he was admitted to University of Malaya, where he pursued a bachelor's degree in Science (Genetics). The Internal Security Act 1960 ( ms, Akta Keselamatan Dalam Negeri 1960, abbreviated ISA) was a preventive detention law in force in Malaysia. The legislation was enacted after the Federation of Malaya gained independence from Britain in 1957. The ISA allows for detention without trial or criminal charges under limited, legally defined circumstances. Suaram
Suara Rakyat Malaysia, better known by its abbreviation SUARAM (Malay for "Voice of the Malaysian People"), is a human rights organisation in Malaysia created in 1987 after Operation Lalang, when 106 opposition, unions, activist leaders were detained without trial under the Internal Security Act. In 1989, the detainee support group, ISA detainees and other activist groups decided to form SUARAM, whose primary object was to campaign for the abolition of the ISA and detention without trial. Operation Lalang
Operation Lalang ( ms, Operasi Lalang, also referred as Ops Lalang and taken to mean "Weeding Operation" or "Operation Weeding") was a major crackdown between 27 October and 20 November 1987 undertaken by the Royal Malaysian Police, ostensibly to prevent the occurrence of racial riots in Malaysia. The operation saw the arrest of 106 to 119 people—political activists, opposition politicians, intellectuals, students, artists, scientists and others, who were detained without trial under the Internal Security Act (ISA). It was the second largest swoop in Malaysian history involving the ISA since the 13 May riots 18 years earlier. Temerloh
Temerloh is a municipality in central Pahang, Malaysia. Temerloh has been proven to be the "centre of Peninsular Malaysia" (Malay: ) 3TS, which is situated at Kampung Paya Siput, Lanchang.
