Charles F. Aeschliman
Charles Frederick Aeschlimann (; 28 February 1897 – 4 May 1952), also spelled as ''Charles Aeschliman'', was a Swiss tennis player who represented Switzerland in the Davis Cup and the Olympic Games. Tennis career He competed in the singles event at the 1924 Summer Olympics, reaching the third round in which he lost to Béla von Kehrling in five sets. With compatriot Maurice Ferrier he competed in the men's doubles event and reached the second round. Aeschlimann competed in seven Wimbledon Championships between 1926 and 1938. In the singles event his best result was reaching the third round of the 1926 Wimbledon Championships in which he lost to Henry Mayes. His best doubles result was reaching the third round in 1937 with countryman Max Ellmer. With Gladys Clarke-Jervoise he reached the fourth round of the mixed doubles event in 1935. The U.S. Women's Indoor Championships, was a national tennis championship for women that was sanctioned by the United States Tennis Association and held 79 times from 1907 through 2001 at various locations and on various surfaces. The event was affiliated with the WTA Tour from 1971 through 2001 (excluding 1977). Marie Wagner won more singles titles (6) and Hazel Hotchkiss Wightman won more doubles titles (10) at this tournament than any other woman. Lois Felix holds the record for runners-up in singles (4) while Wightman and Norma Taubele Barber hold the record for runners-up in doubles (5). Ladislav Žemla (6 November 1887 – 18 June 1955) was a Czech tennis player. Max Ellmer (1909 – 1984) was a Swiss tennis player in the years before and after World War 2. Ellmer had a powerful backhand and good footwork. He played Davis Cup for Switzerland from 1933 to 1938. He won the Swiss Championships four times (1932, 1934, 1935 and 1936). He played at the French Championships and Wimbledon in a Grand Slam singles career that spanned the years 1930 to 1949. At the French Championships in 1934, Ellmer beat the 13th seed Wilmer Hines and won a set from eventual winner Gottfried von Cramm in losing in the fourth round. At Wimbledon in 1938, Ellmer beat 6th seed Dragutin Mitić in five sets before losing in straight sets to Bunny Austin Henry Wilfred "Bunny" Austin (26 August 1906 – 26 August 2000) was an English tennis player.
