Charles W
The F/V ''Charles W'', also known as Annie J Larsen, is a historic fishing schooner anchored in Petersburg, Alaska. At the time of its retirement in 2000, it was the oldest fishing vessel in the fishing fleet of Southeast Alaska, and the only known wooden fishing vessel in the entire state still in active service. Launched in 1907, she was first used in the halibut fisheries of Puget Sound and the Bering Sea as the ''Annie J Larsen''. In 1925 she was purchased by the Alaska Glacier Seafood Company, refitted for shrimp trawling, and renamed ''Charles W'' in honor of owner Karl Sifferman's father. The company was one of the pioneers of the local shrimp fishery, a business it began to phase out due to increasing competition in the 1970s. The ''Charles W'' was the last of the company's fleet of ships, which numbered twelve at its height. The boat was acquired in 2002 by the nonprofit Friends of the ''Charles W''. Charles Henry "Stumpy" Bartlett (June 14, 1899 – March 29, 1965) was a college football player. Early years Bartlett was from Marlin, Texas. University of Alabama Bartlett was a prominent halfback and quarterback for Xen C. Scott's Alabama Crimson Tide football teams of the University of Alabama. 1922 Bartlett starred in the first ever meeting against the Oglethorpe Stormy Petrels in 1922. Alabama won 41–0 before 3,000 fans at Tuscaloosa.1922 Season Recap Bartlett scored five of their six touchdowns in the victory. He is a two-time World Champion, was a selector of Australian Olympic and world championship representative crews and has been a senior rowing administrator at state and national levels. Rowing career Bartlett's senior rowing started from the Melbourne University Boat Club in 1973. Charles Lafayette Bartlett (January 31, 1853 – April 21, 1938) was an American politician. A member of the Democratic Party, he served as a United States Representative from Georgia from 1895 to 1915. Early years and education Bartlett was born in Monticello, Georgia. He graduated in 1870 with a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Georgia (UGA) in Athens. While at UGA, he was a member of the Phi Kappa Literary Society. He then studied law at the University of Virginia before graduating from the UGA School of Law with a Bachelor of Laws degree in 1872, gaining admission to the state bar, and beginning the practice of law in Monticello. Commodore Charles Alfred Bartlett (21 August 1868 – 15 February 1945) was a merchant seaman and Royal Naval Reserve officer, who achieved command status with the White Star Line shipping company, including as captain of . Biography Born in London, Bartlett served six years with the British-India Steam Navigation Company before joining the White Star Line in 1894. He was appointed as an officer in the Royal Naval Reserve in 1893. He is perhaps best remembered as the captain of the ''Britannic'' from 1915 to November 1916, when the ship was sunk off Greece by a German-laid mine. After the war he served as Royal Naval Reserve aide-de-camp to King George V. Bartlett was known as "Iceberg Charlie" to his crew due to his alleged ability to detect icebergs miles away.
