Chantal Lalonde
Chantal Duhaime (born March 6, 1990 in Pickering, Ontario as Chantal Lalonde) is a Canadian curler from Barrie, Ontario. She currently plays third for Team Jacqueline Harrison. Curling career Duhaime played third for Ontario at the 2008 Canadian Junior Curling Championships on a team skipped by Danielle Inglis. The team finished the round robin with a 6-6 record, missing the playoffs. She skipped the Fanshawe College Falcons at the 2012 CCAA Curling Invitational Championship, winning the gold medal. Duhaime and future husband Connor Duhaime played in the 2014 Canadian Mixed Doubles Curling Trials, but finished with a 1-6 record, missing the playoffs. After her college career, Duhaime continued to skip her own team on the Ontario and World Curling Tours. She joined the Tippin rink in 2015. Pickering (2021 population 99,186) is a city located in Southern Ontario, Canada, immediately east of Toronto in Durham Region. 2017 Canadian Olympic Curling Trials
The 2017 Canadian Olympic Curling Trials (branded as the 2017 Tim Hortons Roar of the Rings for sponsorship reasons) were held from December 2 to 10 at the Canadian Tire Centre in Kanata, Ottawa, Ontario. The winners of the men's and women's events would represent Canada at the 2018 Winter Olympics. The women's final was won by Team Rachel Homan in front of her home town crowd. She defeated Team Chelsea Carey 6–5, after Carey missed a pivotal double takeout on her last shot of the 10th end. The men's final was won by Team Kevin Koe from Alberta. He defeated Team Mike McEwen 7–6, drawing to the button for one on the last stone of the 10th end. StuSells Toronto Tankard
The Stu Sells Tankard, previously known as the Stu Sells Toronto Tankard, is an annual bonspiel, or curling tournament, that takes place at the Barrie Curling Club in Barrie, Ontario. The event is held in a round-robin format, however, was held in a triple-knockout format for many years. The tournament is sponsored by Stu Sells, a local real estate company, and is part of the "Stu Sells Series" or events, which includes the Stu Sells Oakville Tankard, the Stu Sells 1824 Halifax Classic, and a number of other junior and local tour events. The men's event became a World Curling Tour event in 2011, but was later discontinued after the 2019 edition. The women's event became a World Curling Tour event in 2016, but was also discontinued in 2020. Both the men's and women's events are also part of the Ontario Curling Tour. 2017 GSOC Tour Challenge
The 2017 GSOC Tour Challenge was held from September 5 to 10 at the Co-operators Centre at Evraz Place in Regina, Saskatchewan. This was the first Grand Slam of the 2017–18 curling season. There were two tiers in each of the men's and women's events. The winning tier 1 teams get a direct bye into the 2018 Humpty's Champions Cup, the last grand slam event of the season. The winning tier 2 teams get a bye into the 2017 Masters, the next grand slam event of the season. On the men's side, the defending World Champion Brad Gushue rink from St. John's, Newfoundland defeated the defending Norwegian champion Steffen Walstad rink in the final. It would be Gushue's 8th career grand slam win. Team Gushue went undefeated in the tournament and took home $20,000 for the win. Grand Slam (curling)
The Grand Slam of Curling (branded as the Pinty's Grand Slam of Curling for sponsorship reasons) is a series of curling bonspiels that are a part of the annual World Curling Tour. Grand Slam events offer a purse of at least CAD$100,000, and feature the best teams from across Canada and around the World. The Grand Slam was instituted during the 2001–02 season for men and 2006–07 for women (with the 2006 Players' Championship also considered a Slam), but some of the Grand Slam events have longer histories as bonspiels. The Grand Slam season consists of six men's and women's events. The original four events (Masters, Open, National, and Players' Championship) are considered to be "majors". 2017 Ontario Scotties Tournament Of Hearts
The 2017 Ontario Scotties Tournament of Hearts, the provincial women's curling championship for Southern Ontario, was held January 30 to February 5 at the Cobourg Community Centre in Cobourg, Ontario. The winning Rachel Homan rink represented Ontario at the 2017 Scotties Tournament of Hearts on home ice in St. Catharines, Ontario. Homan went on to win her third Scotties Tournament of Hearts, defeating Manitoba's Michelle Englot in the final. The event was held in conjunction with the 2017 Ontario Tankard, southern Ontario's men's provincial championship which was held at the same time. The events are usually held separately. The opening ceremonies were scheduled for January 30. The Rachel Homan rink, who were ranked #1 on the World Curling Tour's Order of Merit ranking won the event, after having been upset in the 2016 Ontario Scotties Tournament of Hearts by club-mates Jenn Hanna and her rink.
