Ahn Changho
Ahn Changho, sometimes An Chang-ho (; , November 9, 1878 – March 10, 1938) was a Korean independence activist and one of the early leaders of the Korean-American immigrant community in the United States. He is also referred to by his pen name Dosan (도산; 島山 ). A Protestant social activist, he established the Shinminhoe (New Korea Society) when he returned to Korea from the US in 1907. It was the most important organization to fight the Japanese occupation of Korea. He established the Young Korean Academy (흥사단; 興士團) in San Francisco in 1913 and was a key member in the founding of the Provisional Government of the Republic of Korea in Shanghai in 1919. Ahn is one of two men believed to have written the lyrics of "Aegukga", the South Korean national anthem. Besides his work for the Independence Movement, Dosan wanted to reform the Korean people's character and the entire social system of Korea. Lee Chang-ho ( ko, 이창호; born 29 July 1975 in Jeonju, North Jeolla) is a South Korean professional Go player of 9-dan rank. He is regarded by many as the best Go player of the late 1990s and early 2000s. He was a student of Cho Hun-hyun 9-dan. He is the second youngest (11 years 1 month) to become a professional Go player in South Korean history behind Cho Hun-hyun (9 years 7 months). He is the only player to have won all eight international competitions at least once. Biography He turned professional in 1986 at the young age of 11. Cho Chang-ho (; October 2, 1930 – November 19, 2006) was a South Korean military officer. He served South Korea, during the Korean War. Cho Chang-ho is known as the first South Korean POW to escape from North Korea after the Korean Armistice Agreement in 1953. Early life and education Cho Chang-ho was born in Pyongyang. His family moved to Seoul in 1936. and he graduated from Gyeonggi Commercial High school and entered Yonsei University in 1950. On 25 June 1950, with the outbreak of Korean War, he entered the Republic of Korea Army in October 1950 and became an ROK Army officer in April 1951. Kim Chang-ho ( ko, 김창호) (born 15 September 1969, died 11 October 2018), was a South Korean high altitude mountain climber, and at the time of his death in 2018, was considered Korea's strongest ever alpine and Himalayan climber. In 2012, Kim won the Piolets d'Or Asia award with An Chi-young when they made the first-ever ascent of Himjung (7,092m, 2012) in Nepal via its southwest face. In 2017, Kim and his two climbing partners were awarded an ''Honourable Mention'' for the 2017 Piolet d'Or for their ascent of Gangapurna's south face (7,455m, 2016) in a "bold lightweight alpine style", the first Koreans to receive such a citation. Chung Chang-ho () is a South Korean judge who has been serving judge at the International Criminal Court (ICC), serving since 2015. He is the second South Korean to serve in the chambers of the Court, following former president Song Sang-hyun. This is a list of Korean given names by type. Most Korean given names consist of two Sino-Korean morphemes each written with one hanja.
