Chandless State Park
The Chandless State Park ( pt, Parque Estadual Chandless) is a state park in the state of Acre, Brazil. It protects an important but relatively unexplored region of rainforest with bamboos holding great biodiversity. It is valuable as an ecological corridor between adjoining conservation units and indigenous territories. Some parts of the park are used by uncontacted nomadic indigenous people. Location The Chandless State Park is in the municipalities of Sena Madureira (11.73%), Santa Rosa do Purus (22.68%) and Manoel Urbano (65.59%) in the state of Acre. The park is bordered to the west by the international border with Peru and Peru's Manú National Park. To the east it adjoins the Cazumbá-Iracema Extractive Reserve. Manoel Urbano
Manoel Urbano () is a municipality located in the center-western region of the Brazilian state of Acre. As of 2010 it was one of the poorest municipalities in Brazil, with a low Human Development Index. Location Manoel Urbano is in the state of Acre, the Vale do Acre mesoregion and the Sena Madureira microregion. It is from the state capital, Rio Branco, along the BR-364, which is paved to the municipality. Oxbow Lake
An oxbow lake is a U-shaped lake or pool that forms when a wide meander of a river is cut off, creating a free-standing body of water. In South Texas, oxbows left by the Rio Grande are called '' resacas''. In Australia, oxbow lakes are called billabongs. The word "oxbow" can also refer to a U-shaped bend in a river or stream, whether or not it is cut off from the main stream. Geology An oxbow lake forms when a meandering river erodes through the neck of one of its meanders. This takes place because meanders tend to grow and become more curved over time. Mashco-Piro People
The Mashco-Piro or Mascho Piro, also known as the Cujareño people and Nomole, are an indigenous tribe of nomadic hunter-gatherers who inhabit the remote regions of the Amazon rainforest. They live in Manú National Park in the Madre de Dios Region in Peru. They have in the past actively avoided contact with non-native peoples. Demographics In 1998, the IWGIA estimated their number to be around 100 to 250. This is an increase from the 1976 estimated population of 20 to 100. The Mashco-Piro tribe speaks a dialect of the Piro language. "Mashco" (originally spelled "Maschcos") is a term which was first used by Padre Biedma in 1687 to refer to the Harakmbut people. Rio Acre Ecological Station ( pt, Estação Ecológica do Rio Acre) is an ecological station in the state of Acre, Brazil. Location The Rio Acre Ecological Station, which covers , was created on 2 June 1981. It is administered by the Chico Mendes Institute for Biodiversity Conservation. The ecological station lies in the municipalities of Assis Brasil and Sena Madureira in the state of Acre. Guadua
''Guadua'' is a Neotropical genus of thorny, clumping bamboo in the grass family, ranging from moderate to very large species. Physically, '' Guadua angustifolia'' is noted for being the largest Neotropical bamboo. The genus is similar to ''Bambusa'' and is sometimes included in that genus. Several animals are, to a various extent, associated with stands of ''Guadua'' bamboo, for example several species of seedeaters, and the Amazon and Atlantic Bamboo Rats. The Amazon biome ( pt, Bioma Amazônia) contains the Amazon rainforest, an area of tropical rainforest, and other ecoregions that cover most of the Amazon basin and some adjacent areas to the north and east. Chandless River
Chandless River is a river of Peru and the Acre state in western Brazil, named after the British explorer William Chandless. It is a tributary of the Purus River The river originates in Peru. After crossing the border into Brazil it flows in a north east direction through the Chandless State Park, created in 2004, which protects an area of rainforest with bamboos that contains various endemic species of flora and fauna. The main tributaries of the Chandless in this section are the Cuchichá and Chandless-chá streams. The Cuchicá forms the northern border of the park to the point where it joins the Chandless.
