Chambao
Chambao were a flamenco-electronic band originally from Málaga, Spain, known for a Flamenco Chill sound that fuses flamenco sounds and palos with electronic music. The name of the band is taken from an improvised form of beach tent that is constructed as a means of sheltering from the wind and sun. The three original members of Chambao were María del Mar Rodriguez Carnero (La Mari), Eduardo Casañ (El Edi) and Daniel Casañ (Dani). They made waves in the world music scene with their new brand of flamenco, called flamenco chill, which combined the passion and vocal style of traditional Andalusian flamenco with elements of electronica, specifically chillout. Formed in the early morning hours of the 2001 summer solstice in Malaga, Spain, Chambao first appeared to the greater public on the 2002 Sony compilation Flamenco Chill, to which they contributed eight songs, featuring Mari on vocals and the others on the instrumentation. Henrik Takkenberg
Henrik Takkenberg (August 23, 1967 – November 25, 2006) was a lead singer, songwriter, composer and producer who developed a new musical style he named Flamenco Chill. Biography He was the producer and member of the Spanish group Chambao ( Sony BMG) and produced Cathy Claret on the album Sambisarane (Subterfuge Records). The fusion of electronic ambient sounds with Flamenco, transformed the interpretation of this traditional Spanish music and met with popular success. His profound knowledge of ethnic, classical and electronic music were influenced by his Asian and Japanese Language and Literature Degree studies at Doshisha University in Kyoto, Japan in the Associated Kyoto Program exchange with Connecticut College. There, he studied the Shakuhachi and medieval Japanese notation from 1988 to 1989 with Nakao Tozan, director of the Shin-Tozan-Ryu School of Shakuhachi, daughter of the founder. Flamenco
Flamenco (), in its strictest sense, is an art form based on the various folkloric music traditions of southern Spain, developed within the gitano subculture of the region of Andalusia, and also having historical presence in Extremadura and Murcia. The word ''palo'', in Spanish, has several meanings, the main one being "stick", "pole" "rod" or "Tree", but in this case it has the sense of " suit of cards" i.e. category or classification.
