Agnico Eagle
Agnico Eagle Mines Limited is a Canadian-based gold producer with operations in Canada, Finland and Mexico and exploration and development activities extending to the United States. Agnico Eagle has full exposure to higher gold prices consistent with its policy of no-forward gold sales. As of 2017, it has paid a cash dividend every year since 1983. History In 1953, five struggling mining companies joined together to become Cobalt Consolidated Mining, which would last until 1957, when the company changed its name to Agnico Mines. "Agnico" is derived from the periodic table of elements using the symbols for silver (Ag), nickel (Ni) and cobalt (Co). In 1963, visionary Paul Penna became the president of Agnico Mines, and he eventually oversaw the merger of Agnico Mines with Eagle Mines Ltd, a successful gold exploration company, enabling the development of Eagle's Joutel mining complex. Meadowbank Gold Mine
The Meadowbank Gold Mine is an open pit gold mine operated by Agnico-Eagle Mines in the Kivalliq district of Nunavut, Canada approximately 300 km west of Hudson Bay. Meadowbank was Agnico Eagle’s first Low Arctic mine. Discovery Discoveries of gold-containing Archean greenstone in the Baker Lake region were made in the 1980s. Asamera Minerals and Complex set out as partners in the project. The Third Portage deposit was discovered in 1987; this was followed by the discovery of the Goose Island deposit, and the North Portage deposit. Cumberland completed their acquisition of Complex's share in the discovery in 1997 taking sole ownership of the project. Since then three further discoveries have been made including the Vault deposit (October 2000), the PDF deposit (October 2002) and the Cannu zone (September 2005). Cumberland ( ) is a historic county in the far North West England. It covers part of the Lake District as well as the north Pennines and Solway Firth coast. Cumberland had an administrative function from the 12th century until 1974. Kittilä Mine
Kittilä mine, also known as Suurikuusikko mine, is a gold mine in Kittilä, in the Lapland County of Finland. The mine is owned and operated by Agnico-Eagle Mines Limited and is located north-east of Kittilä. Exploration began in 1986, and production started in 2008. The mine is composed of two open pits, with the proceeds of the operation funding an underground mining operation, accessed by a ramp from surface and utilizing both transverse and longitudinal long-hole stoping methods. The mine utilizes on-site concentrating to produce Doré bars for shipment off-site for refinement, and is scheduled to produce of gold in 2009. Riddarhyttan is a locality in Skinnskatteberg Municipality, Västmanland County, Sweden, with 431 inhabitants in 2010. It has an old iron mining tradition, which can be followed back to the last centuries before Christ. The last mine was closed down in 1979. Geography and geology Riddarhyttan is, along with Skinnskatteberg, one of only two urban areas or ''localities'' (more than 200 inhabitants) in the Skinnskatteberg Municipality in the western part of Västmanland County, on the border to Örebro County. LaRonde Mine
The LaRonde Mine is a gold mine in the Abitibi-Témiscamingue region west of Val-d'Or in Quebec, Canada. LaRonde began commercial mining operations in 1988. The LaRonde mining complex has 3.8 million ounces of gold in provable and probable reserves. Previous operations at the LaRonde complex used open-pit mining methods. Presently, operations are primarily underground. The mine's Penna shaft – completed in March 2000 – has a depth of 2,250 metres. It is expected that the mine will continue operations until 2032 and currently employs 1,042 workers.
