Chairman's Sprint Prize
The Chairman's Sprint Prize is a Group 1 Thoroughbred horse race in Hong Kong, run over a distance of 1200 metres. Until 2000, it was run as the Hong Kong Sprint Championship to coincide with the opening of Sha Tin Racecourse. In 2016, this race become the 4th round of the Global Sprint Challenge, and was elevated to International Group 1 status. This race offers a purse of HK$16,000,000. Sha Tin Racecourse
Sha Tin Racecourse is one of the two racecourses for horse racing in Hong Kong. It is located in Sha Tin District, Sha Tin in the New Territories. It is managed by Hong Kong Jockey Club. Penfold Park is encircled by the track, and the Hong Kong Sports Institute is located immediately south of the property. Michael Jackson planned to perform at the racecourse on his Dangerous World Tour, which was the start of the third leg, but was cancelled due to the conflict of the racing season. History It was built in 1978 (under the administration of Sir David Akers-Jones, the then-Secretary for the New Territories) on reclaimed land and is the larger of the two tracks in Hong Kong. Douglas Whyte
Douglas Whyte (born 15 Nov 1971 in Johannesburg, South Africa) is a former horse racing jockey and is now a horse trainer. He became Hong Kong champion jockey in the 2000-2001 season and won 13 consecutive titles, a record in flat racing. In 2013-14, he relinquished that title to Zac Purton, finishing third with 88 wins to give him an accumulated total of more than 1,600 races in Hong Kong with career stake earnings of more than $HK 1.3 billion. Douglas Whyte retired as a jockey on 10 February 2019 Shatin meeting. He started as a horse trainer for the 2019/2020 season and finished with 42 Wins. Sacred Kingdom (Chinese: 蓮華生輝), (foaled 18 November 2003 in Australia on Kornong Stud) is a Thoroughbred racehorse trained in Hong Kong. David Hall (horse Trainer)
David Joseph Hall (born 27 October 1963 in Adelaide, South Australia) is an Australian horse trainer. The son of trainer, Joe Hall, he obtained his trainer's license in 1988 at Morphettville. In 1993, he moved to race in Melbourne where he became famous for training Makybe Diva to the first of her three successive Melbourne Cup victories in 2003. David Hall was granted a trainer license by the Hong Kong Jockey Club in 2004. In 2010/11, he trained 21 winners and by the end of that season had run up an overall Hong Kong total of 209. In 2013/14 he trained 25 winners, including Bubble Chic who won the HKG3 Premier Plate and HKG3 Queen Mother Memorial Cup. He has accrued an overall Hong Kong total of 292. Brett Prebble (born 23 September 1977 in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia) is a leading Australian jockey, currently based in Melbourne, Victoria. Having ridden over 1200 career winners, Prebble's most famous win came aboard Green Moon in the 2012 Emirates Melbourne Cup. Personal life Prebble was born in Melbourne on 23 September 1977. Christophe Soumillon
Christophe Soumillon (born 4 June 1981) is a Belgian jockey based in France. Career Coming from a racing background, Soumillon is the son of jump jockey Jean-Marc Soumillon. He rode in pony races and left Belgium aged fifteen to go to the racing school in Chantilly, France, where he was then apprenticed to trainer Cédric Boutin. Soumillon rode his first Group race winner aged eighteen when Berine's Son, trained by André Fabre, won the 2000 Prix de Fontainebleau. The following season he won four Group 1 races, including the Prix du Jockey Club on Anabaa. Soumillon won the cravache d'or (the golden whip or French champion jockey title) for the first time in 2003 and won his tenth title in 2018. Felix Coetzee
Felix Coetzee (born 7 March 1959 in Durban, Natal Province, Union of South Africa) is a South African three-time champion jockey in thoroughbred horse racing. Felix Coetzee is the son of a KwaZulu-Natal trainer and his grandfather was an owner-trainer. As a fifteen-year-old, Felix Coetzee attended the Jockey Academy at Summerveld then served his apprenticeship with his father's racing stable. At age sixteen, he scored his first significant win, riding Kentford to victory in the 1975 Clairwood Winter Handicap. In 1982 he signed on with renowned Cape Town trainer Terence M. Millard with whom he was associated until his retirement in 1991. Silent Witness () (foaled 1 October 1999) was an outstanding Thoroughbred racehorse who won his first 17 starts in sprint races in Hong Kong. He was ranked the world's top sprinter for three seasons. He was bred by Mr I. K. Smith and foaled in 1999 at Edinburgh Park Stud near Taree, New South Wales in Australia. Silent Witness is by El Moxie (USA) out of Jade Tiara by Bureaucracy (NZ). Jade Tiara is the dam of nine named horses. Racing record Silent Witness was trained by Tony Cruz, ridden by Felix Coetzee and owned by Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Antonio da Silva. John Size
John Size (born 10 July 1954) is one of the most successful racehorse trainers in Hong Kong history and was inducted into the Australian Racing Hall Of Fame in 2018. After a successful career in his native Australia, Size arrived in Hong Kong for the 2001-02 season with a reputation for rejuvenating horses set back by illness or injury and for his ability to mould and develop young horses from the beginning of their careers. In his first season, he trained 58 winners to become only the second trainer ever to win the championship title in his first season. Shane Dye
Raymond Shane Dye (born 26 September 1966, in the township of Matamata New Zealand), is a former jockey. He was an apprentice jockey to Dave O’Sullivan at Matamata, before moving to Sydney, Australia initially working with Vic Thompson at Warwick Farm in the late-1980s. In a distinguished riding career, Dye won the Melbourne Cup on Tawriffic in 1989 in then-record time, and won four consecutive Golden Slippers from 1989 to 1992. He also won the Cox Plate on Octagonal in 1995. Dye rode in Mauritius after eight years in Hong Kong. Dye has not ridden in competitive racing since 2013 and has said he will not return to racing. Weichong C. Marwing (born 14 March 1970 in South Africa) is a Thoroughbred horse racing jockey. Based in South Africa, he has won a number of important international Group One races. He is well remembered for riding Irridescence to victory over the great Ouija Board in the 2006 Queen Elizabeth II Cup at Sha Tin Racecourse in Hong Kong.
