Chacarita, Buenos Aires
Chacarita is a ''barrio'' or neighborhood in the north-central part of Buenos Aires, Argentina. Located between Colegiales, Palermo, Villa Crespo, La Paternal and Villa Ortúzar, this is a quiet neighbourhood with tree-lined streets, a combination of vintage rowhouses and apartment buildings. Locally, it's probably best known for the 95 hectare (234.75 acre) Chacarita Cemetery. History The territories of this district belonged formerly to the Jesuits, who had small farms. Its name comes from the word "small farm" or ''chácara'' in old Spanish. Following the Suppression of the Jesuits in 1767, they were expelled and all their goods were declared property of the Crown. One of the few and most important remaining residences from the era is that of the Comastri family, which at the moment is the ''Escuela Nacional de Educación Técnica N° 34''. Club Atlético Chacarita Juniors (usually known simply as Chacarita) is an Argentine football club headquartered in Villa Crespo, Buenos Aires, while the stadium is located in Villa Maipú, General San Martín Partido of Greater Buenos Aires. The squad currently plays in Primera Nacional, the second division of the Argentine football league system. History The club was founded on 1 May 1906, in an anarchist Library on the boundary between the Villa Crespo and Chacarita neighbourhoods. After a short period of institutional crisis, the club was re-opened in 1919. The football squad promoted to Primera División in 1924, and continued playing at the top level after football became professional in 1931. In 1940 Chacarita was relegated to the second division, but it lasted only one season. Chacarita Airport is an airport serving the town of Chacarita in Puntarenas Province, Costa Rica. Chacarita is on the Pacific coast at the base of the Puntarenas peninsula, just east of Puntarenas city. The runway parallels the Gulf of Nicoya shoreline, inland.
