Cerhenice
Cerhenice is a market town in Kolín District in the Central Bohemian Region of the Czech Republic. It has about 1,900 inhabitants. Administrative parts The village of Cerhýnky is an administrative part of Cerhenice. Etymology The original name of the village was Crhynice, meaning "the village of Crhyň's people". Geography Cerhenice is located about northwest of Kolín and east of Prague. It lies in a flat agricultural landscape of the Central Elbe Table. History The first written mention of Cerhenice is from 1295. For centuries, it was owned by various lower noblemen. Around 1520, during the rule of Eliška of Střížkov, the village was promoted to a Městys, market town. For the longest time, Cerhenice was owned by the Střela of Rokyce family (1550–1689). The most notable owners were the Sternberg family, who inherited Cerhenice in 1689, and the Kolowrat family, who bought it from the Sternbergs in 1757. Velim Railway Test Circuit
The Velim test center ( cs, Zkušební centrum Velim) is a railway rolling stock testing facility at Cerhenice, close to the town of Kolín in the Central Bohemian Region of the Czech Republic. Perhaps its most notable feature is the Velim railway test circuit ('), which consists of two large standard gauge railway track ovals, designed to allow the continuous running of rail vehicles for evaluation and testing. The Velim test centre was constructed during the 1960s and was largely used for domestic purposes early on. During the 1990s, it became increasing popular with international customers, which drove demands to recondition the center's facilities to fulfill the latest standards of the rail industry. Between 2005 and 2014, an extensive modernisation programme was undertaken at Velim; this involved most aspects of its operations, including power supplies, signalling, overhead electrification, preparation halls, and track. Kolín
Kolín (; german: Kolin, Neu Kolin, Collin) is a town in the Central Bohemian Region of the Czech Republic. It has about 32,000 inhabitants. The town centre is well preserved and is protected by law as an urban monument reservation. Administrative parts Kolín is made up of town parts of Kolín I–VI and of villages of Sendražice, Šťáralka, Štítary and Zibohlavy. Etymology The name Kolín probably comes from the Old Czech verb ''koliti'', i.e. "to hammer poles", and is related to the location of Starý Kolín in the often flooded area at the confluence of Klejnárka and Elbe. Městys
Městys (or, unofficially or obsolete, městečko (literally "small town")), translated as "market town", is a status conferred on certain municipalities in the Czech Republic, lying in terms of size and importance higher than that of simple ''obec'' (municipality), but lower than that of ''město'' (city, town). Historically a ''městys'' was a locality which had the right to stage livestock markets (and some other "extraordinary" and annual markets), and it is therefore translated as "market town".
