Central And Wan Chai Reclamation
Central and Wan Chai Reclamation is a project launched by the government of Hong Kong since the 1990s to reclaim land for different purposes. This includes transportation improvements such as the Hong Kong MTR station, Airport Express Railway & Central-Wan Chai Bypass, as well as public recreation space such as the Central Harbourfront Event Space, Tamar Park and the Hong Kong Observation Wheel. Background The project was first mentioned in the 1985 planning strategy by the Government. The Government then completed a feasibility study in 1989, followed by endorsement of the then Land Development Policy Committee on the project. Objectives The proposed reclamation extends along the waterfront from Sheung Wan to Causeway Bay. Rumsey Street
Rumsey Street ( Chinese: 林士街) is a street in Sheung Wan on the Hong Kong Island of Hong Kong. It begins at Wing Lok Street near COSCO Tower, crossing Des Voeux Road Central and Connaught Road Central, and reaches the Victoria Harbour. Name The street was named in 1905 after Robert Murray Rumsey, the Harbour Master of Hong Kong Government. Features Wing On Department Store is located at the street. Causeway Bay Typhoon Shelter
Causeway Bay Typhoon Shelter is a typhoon shelter located in Causeway Bay, Hong Kong, between the Hong Kong Island entrance of Cross-Harbour Tunnel on Kellett Island and Island Eastern Corridor. It was the first typhoon shelter in Hong Kong. It is roughly 17 hectares in area. History The original typhoon shelter was built after the 1874 typhoon, at the present location of Victoria Park, to provide shelter for fishing boats during storms. It was completed in 1883 with a breakwater only 427 metres (1,400 feet) long. The cost was HK$96,500. In December 1903, a legislative council member, Gershom Stewart, suggested that the typhoon shelter be expanded. The motion was passed but expansion works could not be carried out due to lack of capital. Sha Tin, also spelt Shatin, is a neighbourhood along Shing Mun River in the eastern New Territories, Hong Kong. Administratively, it is part of the Sha Tin District. Sha Tin is one of the neighbourhoods of the Sha Tin New Town project. The new town was founded in 1973 under the New Towns Development Programme of the Hong Kong government. Its current name was named after the nearby village of Sha Tin Wai. The literal English translation is 'Sand Fields'. The Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC) is one of the two major convention and exhibition venues in Hong Kong, along with AsiaWorld–Expo.
