Central Pennsylvania Festival Of The Arts
The Central Pennsylvania Festival of the Arts, officially abbreviated as CPFA, is held each summer in State College, Pennsylvania and on the main ( University Park) campus of Pennsylvania State University. Penn State students and locals commonly refer to the event as ''Arts Fest''. History The first Central Pennsylvania Festival of the Arts was held in July 1967, and lasted nine days. Sponsored by Penn State's College of Arts and Architecture and the State College Chamber of Commerce, the first Festival was opened by Governor Raymond P. Shafer. Musical performances took place downtown and on campus, and the first Sidewalk Sale and Exhibition consisted of people hanging work on snow fence along "The Wall" on the southern border of the Old Main lawn. The show wasn't originally juried, so one could purchase art created by professionals and amateurs. Patrons could even buy kittens. Setsucon
Setsucon is an annual two day anime convention held during January at the Blair County Convention Center in Altoona, Pennsylvania. The convention's name comes from the Japanese word ''setsu'', meaning "snow". It is organized by the Penn State Anime Organization (PSAO). The convention is family-friendly. Programming The convention typically offers an anime music video contest, anime showings, artist alley, card-game tournaments, dance, dealer's room, Iron Cosplay, Itasha car show, manga library, masquerade, musical events, panels, tabletop gaming, video gaming, and workshops. The 2008 host auction raised $1,200 and was donated to the United Way. Todd Haberkorn participated in the 2013 host auction, raising $510 for charity. The host auction in 2014 raised nearly $500 for Child's Play. Richard Epcar and Stephanie Sheh participated in the 2015 host auction, along with several cosplayers, raising $800 for Child's Play. Schlow Centre Region Library
The Schlow Centre Region Library, formerly known as the State College Public Library and the Schlow Memorial Library, serves the State College, Pennsylvania State College is a home rule municipality in Centre County in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. It is a college town, dominated economically, culturally and demographically by the presence of the University Park campus of the Pennsylvania Sta ... area. History The library was named after local businessman Charles Schlow, who in 1957 donated space in a West College Avenue house for the original library. The library quickly grew and moved to a new location on South Allen Street. A new building opened in 2005, replacing the original. The new two-story building cost $10 million to construct. The public facilities include 66 computers. There were over 37,000 card holders when the new library opened in 2005. The Carnegie Museum of Art, is an art museum in the Oakland neighborhood of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
