Central Motorway Police Group
The Central Motorway Police Group (CMPG) is a co-operative operation between two police forces in the West Midlands of England. Officers from the two forces involved – Staffordshire Police, and West Midlands Police – provide a dedicated policing service on several hundred miles of the motorway network in the Staffordshire and West Midlands police areas. Previously the group also included West Mercia Police and Warwickshire Police. The radio control room is based at Quinton working with National Highways, and central vehicle depot is located adjacent to the M6 at Perry Barr in Birmingham where Thornbridge Avenue passes under the motorway. The depot has direct access onto both the northbound and southbound carriageways of the motorway allowing police vehicles to respond faster to incidents. Staffordshire
Staffordshire (; postal abbreviation Staffs.) is a landlocked county in the West Midlands region of England. It borders Cheshire to the northwest, Derbyshire and Leicestershire to the east, Warwickshire to the southeast, the West Midlands County and Worcestershire to the south and Shropshire to the west. Quinton, Birmingham
Quinton, is a residential area and ward of Birmingham, England just under west of the city centre. Formerly part of Halesowen parish, Quinton became part of Birmingham in 1909. Quinton was a village and the surrounding area was farmland until the 1930s when the first housing estates were developed. Most of the farmland had been built on by 1980 but some countryside remains in the form of Woodgate Valley Country Park. Along with Bartley Green, Harborne and Edgbaston, Quinton is a part of the Birmingham Edgbaston constituency. Road Policing Unit
A roads policing unit (RPU), or a similarly named unit in some forces, is the specialist road traffic police unit of a Law enforcement in the United Kingdom, British police force. Responsibilities RPUs work with the National Police Chiefs' Council roads policing strategy, ''Policing our Roads Together'', which has five strands: * Casualty reduction. * Counter-terrorism. * Reducing anti-social use of the roads. * Denying criminals the use of the roads. * Public reassurance by high visibility patrolling of the road network. Worcestershire
Worcestershire ( , ; written abbreviation: Worcs) is a county in the West Midlands of England. The area that is now Worcestershire was absorbed into the unified Kingdom of England in 927, at which time it was constituted as a county (see History of Worcestershire). Over the centuries the county borders have been modified, but it was not until 1844 that substantial changes were made. North West Motorway Police Group
The North West Motorway Police Group (NWMPG) provides a regionalised policing service for the motorways within the Cheshire, Merseyside and Greater Manchester Police areas. It was established in June 2008 in partnership with the Highways Agency. Operating from bases across the three police areas, NWMPG is made up of over 130 police officers and more than 30 support staff from the three forces. The group is responsible for patrolling a motorway network stretching from the borders with Lancashire in the north to West Mercia and Staffordshire to the south, as well as North Wales to the west and West Yorkshire to the east. It has been modelled on the Central Motorway Police Group, which has operated in the Midlands since 1990. M6 Motorway
The M6 motorway is the longest motorway in the United Kingdom. It is located entirely within England, running for just over from the Midlands to the border with Scotland. It begins at Junction 19 of the M1 and the western end of the A14 at the Catthorpe Interchange, near Rugby before heading north-west. It passes Coventry, Birmingham, Wolverhampton, Stoke-on-Trent, Preston, Lancaster and Carlisle before terminating at Junction 45 near Gretna. National Highways, formerly the Highways Agency and later Highways England, is a government-owned company charged with operating, maintaining and improving motorways and major A roads in England. Warwickshire Police
Warwickshire Police is the territorial police force responsible for policing Warwickshire in England. It is the second smallest territorial police force in England and Wales after the City of London Police, with only 823 (full-time equivalents) regular officers as of September 2017. West Midlands is a metropolitan county in the West Midlands Region, England, with a 2021 population of 2,919,600, making it the second most populous county in England after Greater London. West Mercia Police (), formerly the West Mercia Constabulary, is the territorial police force responsible for policing the counties of Herefordshire, Shropshire (including Telford and Wrekin) and Worcestershire in England.
