Central Canadian Bluegrass Awards
The Central Canadian Bluegrass Awards, established in 1979, are presented annually by the Northern Bluegrass Committee at its Huntsville, Ontario festival. This event also hosts the annual meeting of the Bluegrass Music Association of Canada (BMAC). Nominations for the awards are made by leaders in the central Canadian bluegrass music scene, and four nominees are chosen in each category. Ballots with the names of the nominees are distributed to members of the Northern Bluegrass Committee, BMAC and local bluegrass music clubs and associations in central Canada. Non-governmental Organization

Pineridge Bluegrass Folklore Society
The Pineridge Bluegrass Folklore Society (PBFS) is a non-profit organization initiated in 1977 for the purpose of preserving and promoting bluegrass music in Oshawa, Ontario, Canada. Members of the Pineridge Bluegrass Folklore Society include professional and amateur musicians as well as fans of bluegrass music. In 2013 the club had about 200 members from the Regional Municipality of Durham. Activities Picking Sessions The Society meets once a month at Woodview Community Centre in Oshawa, Ontario for jam sessions which are open to both members and non-members. Musicians jam in "picking" groups in several rooms. Groups of players, and sometimes visiting bands, take turns performing on stage in the main room to provide entertainment for the members. Deerhurst Resort
Deerhurst Resort in Huntsville, Ontario, is 215 km (133 Miles) north of Toronto in Ontario's Muskoka region, bordering the Algonquin Provincial Park. Ontario Place
Ontario Place is an entertainment venue, event venue, and park in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The venue is located on three artificial landscaped islands just off-shore in Lake Ontario, south of Exhibition Place, and southwest of Downtown Toronto. It opened on May 22, 1971, and operated as a theme park centered around Ontario themes and family attractions until 2012 when the Government of Ontario announced that it would close for redevelopment. It has since reopened as a park without admission but without several of the old attractions. The Government of Ontario is currently considering further redevelopment of the site. Canadian Country Music
Country music has a long history in Canada. The genre evolved out of the diverse musical practices of the Appalachian region of the United States. Appalachian folk music was largely Scottish and Irish, with an important influence also being the African American country blues. Parts of Ontario, British Columbia and the Maritime provinces shared a tradition with the Appalachian region, and country music became popular quite quickly in these places. Fiddlers like George Wade and Don Messer helped to popularize the style, beginning in the late 1920s.
