Centerville (also known as Centreville) is an Unincorporated area, unincorporated community in New Castle County, Delaware, New Castle County, Delaware, United States. Centerville is now known primarily for being the location of Du Pont family estates, as well as several other wealthy business families from nearby Wilmington, Delaware, Wilmington, and the home of Governor of Delaware, Governor Jack Markell. History The village developed along the Route 52, Delaware, Kennett and Wilmington Pike which was chartered by the Delaware Legislature in 1811. The road, now known as Delaware Route 52 or the Kennett Pike, is part of the Brandywine Valley Scenic Byway, a National Scenic Byway. Michael Spinks
Michael Spinks (born July 13, 1956) is an American former professional boxer who competed from 1977 to 1988. He held world championships in two weight classes, including the undisputed light heavyweight title from 1983 to 1985, and the lineal heavyweight title from 1985 to 1988. As an amateur he won a gold medal in the middleweight division at the 1976 Summer Olympics. Isaac Collins (February 16, 1746 March 21, 1817) was a Quaker and an early American printer, publisher, bookseller and merchant. He published the ''New Jersey Gazette'' and ''New Jersey Almanac.'' He was associated with several other colonial newspapers and history works. He is noted for his 1791 bible, one of the leading family bibles published in the United States. He was active in the American Revolution and printed the continental currency for Congress. Brandywine Creek State Park
Brandywine Creek State Park is a state park, located north of Wilmington, Delaware along the Brandywine Creek. Open year-round, it is in area and much of the park was part of a Du Pont family estate and dairy farm before becoming a state park in 1965. It contains the first two nature preserves in Delaware. These nature preserves are Tulip Tree Woods and Freshwater Marsh. Flint Woods is a satellite area of the park and has become the park's third nature preserve. Flint Woods is home to species of rare song birds and an old-growth forest. The park's forests are part of the Northeastern coastal forests ecoregion. Pennsylvania Route 52
Pennsylvania Route 52 (PA 52) is a state highway located in southeast Pennsylvania. The southern terminus of the route is at the Pennsylvania-Delaware state line near Kennett Square, where the road continues as Delaware Route 52 (DE 52). The northern terminus is at U.S. Route 322 Business (US 322 Bus.) in West Chester. Near the Kennett Township community of Longwood, it has about a wrong-way concurrency with US 1. PA 52 passes through suburban and rural areas along its route. PA 52 was first designated by 1928, continuing northeast from West Chester to New Hope along a concurrency with US 122 (later US 202). Fairville, Pennsylvania
Fairville, Pennsylvania is an unincorporated area in southern Chester County which developed in the early nineteenth century about a mile north of the Pennsylvania-Delaware border. It is a linear village along the Kennett Pike (Pennsylvania Route 52) that runs between Kennett Square, Pennsylvania and Wilmington, Delaware. Businesses along the road served both travelers on the road and residents of nearby farms. The village or hamlet extends about 500 yards along both sides of Kennett Pike from Fairville Road to Hickory Hill Road. About 1900 Phillip DuPont built a mansion just south of Fairville Road. It is included in the defined Fairville Historic District, which was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1996. The Harlan Log House, which was built about 1715, is about a half mile west of the village on Fairville Road.
