Cendrillon (Isouard)
''Cendrillon'' (; en, Cinderella) is a French opera in three acts by the Maltese-born composer Nicolas Isouard. It takes the form of an ''opéra comique'' with spoken dialogue between the musical numbers, although its authors designated it an ''opéra féerie''. The libretto, by Charles-Guillaume Étienne, is based on Charles Perrault's fairy tale ''Cinderella''. The work was first performed by the Opéra-Comique at the Salle Feydeau in Paris on 22 February 1810. ''Cendrillon'' was a success throughout Europe until its popularity was eclipsed by that of Rossini's opera on the Cinderella theme, ''La Cenerentola'' (1817). Thérèse Louise Antoinette Regnault, known under the name Antoinette Lemonnier, (23 August 1787 – 4 April 1866) was a French opera singer, member of the Opéra-Comique. Life Born in Brest, Regnault is the daughter of Jacques Louis Regnault, actor, master writer, and Geneviève Elisabeth Marchand. Her singing teacher was Roland, baryton-martin of the Théâtre des Arts de Rouen. She made her debut, at the age of sixteen, at the first theatre of Rouen, in ''le Prisonnier'' and ''Maison à vendre'', and stayed four years in that city. An order from the superintendent of the theatres made her come to Paris to debut at the Opéra-Comique. French-language Operas
French opera is one of Europe's most important operatic traditions, containing works by composers of the stature of Rameau, Berlioz, Gounod, Bizet, Massenet, Debussy, Ravel, Poulenc and Messiaen. Many foreign-born composers have played a part in the French tradition as well, including Lully, Gluck, Salieri, Cherubini, Spontini, Meyerbeer, Rossini, Donizetti, Verdi and Offenbach. Bampton Classical Opera is an opera company based in Bampton, Oxfordshire and founded in 1993. It specialises in the production of lesser known opera from the Classical period. Leonardus Antony Marinus Riemens (3 December 1910 – 3 April 1985) was a Dutch musicologist and cultural journalist. He wrote a book about Maria Callas, and together with Karl-Josef Kutsch began a reference book about opera singers in 1962, which grew to ''Großes Sängerlexikon'', the standard reference in the field. Karl-Josef Kutsch, also known as K. J. Kutsch, (born 11 May 1924) is a German physician and co-author with Leo Riemens of the ''Großes Sängerlexikon'', the standard reference for opera singers. Life and work Born in Gangelt, Kutsch studied medicine, was drafted and participated as a soldier in the Russia campaign of the Second World War. He then completed his studies at the Goethe University Frankfurt in 1948. He practised as a physician from 1952 to 1989 in his hometown, together with his wife. Amanda Juliet Holden (; 19 January 1948 – 7 September 2021) was a British pianist, librettist, translator, editor and academic teacher. Richard Alan Bonynge ( ) (born 29 September 1930) is an Australian conductor and pianist. He is the widower of Australian dramatic coloratura soprano Dame Joan Sutherland. Bonynge conducted virtually all of Sutherland's operatic performances from 1962 until her retirement in 1990. Jean-Pierre Solié (also Soulier, Solier, Sollié; 1755 in Nîmes – 6 August 1812 in Paris) was a French cellist and operatic singer. A tenor is a type of classical music, classical male singing human voice, voice whose vocal range lies between the countertenor and baritone voice types. It is the highest male chest voice type.
