Cefn Albion Football Club is a Welsh Association football, football club representing the village of Cefn Mawr in Wrexham County Borough. The club was founded in 2013 and plays in the Ardal Leagues North East, in the third tier of the Welsh football league system. History The team took its name from an older club also named Cefn Albion who existed from 1967 to 1992, who in turn took their name from an even older team who had existed as far back as 1902. The 1967-1992 club merged with Druids United F.C., Druids United to form Cefn Druids A.F.C., Cefn Druids in 1992. The team began playing in the 2014–15 season in the Clwyd East Football League (fifth tier). It won the league, scoring 150 goals in 22 games and losing only once. The team also won three cups that season, and lost a fourth in the final. The following season, the team achieved second consecutive promotion when won it won the Welsh National League Division One. Neil Ashton
Neil John Ashton (born 15 January 1985) is an English manager and former footballer who is currently manager of Cefn Albion. Typically played as left-back, he occasionally acted as a midfielder. Career Tranmere Rovers Neil Ashton started his career with Tranmere Rovers as a youth player in 2001 and turned professional in 2003, he was part of the senior squad until 2005 making just one league appearance during his time at Prenton Park. In the 2004–05 season he was loaned out to Shrewsbury Town and made 24 appearances. Shrewsbury Town At the start of the 2004–05 season, the manager at that time, Gary Peters, bought in Ashton on loan from Tranmere Rovers to offer competition to left back Trevor Challis. By the end of that season, the deal was turned into a permanent one that saw Ashton make over 130 appearances in all competitions, before his subsequent move to Macclesfield Town.
