Cecilia Guimarães (28 May 1927 – 2 February 2021) was a Portuguese actress. Early life Cecília Guimarães was born in Lisbon on 28 May 1927. Career After the course at the National Conservatory, she debuted with '' A Qualquer Hora o Diabo Vem de Pedro Bom'', at the Rua da Fé Theater (1951), Passes by Companhia Alves da Cunha and Teatro do Gerifalto. At the Teatro Experimental do Porto, where, under the direction of António Pedro, she performed O Crime da Aldeia Velha by Bernardo Santareno. Still in the 50s, she went to work for the Diogo d'Avila Electrical Conductor Factory (Cables Avila) office. She was then invited by António Lopes Ribeiro to participate in the film O Primo Basílio, where she was distinguished with the SNI "Best Actress" award. António Pedro
António Pedro da Costa (9 December 1909, in Portuguese Cape Verde, Santiago, Praia – 17 August 1966, in Caminha, Moledo, Portugal) was a Portuguese painter, potter, journalist and writer. Biography He was born to a prominent colonial family from the Cape Verde Islands, son of José Maria da Costa (b. Lisbon, c. 1870) and wife Elizabeth Savage de Paula Rosa. However, his maternal grandmother was Irish and English, and he cited this influence of the "Celtic spirit" as an influence in his work. In addition because his family spoke English, and sent their children to English schools, he was able to work as a journalist with the BBC in London between 1944 and 1945. He moved to Portugal when he was four. Bernardo Santareno
Bernardo Santareno is the pseudonym of António Martinho do Rosário (November 19, 1920 – August 20, 1980), a Portuguese writer. Life He was born in 1920, in Santarém, Ribatejo, to Maria Ventura Lavareda and Joaquim Martinho do Rosário. He completed highschool in Santarém, at Liceu Nacional de Sá da Bandeira, in 1939. Graduated in Psychiatry from Universidade de Coimbra in 1950. Died aged 59 in Oeiras. In 1957/58 worked as an on-board physician in the Portuguese cod fishing fleet, an experience that inspired, among other writings, his sole prose effort. His left-wing stance often put him at odds with the Estado Novo dictatorship. Santareno left unpublished one of his most powerful plays, ''O Punho'', which takes place during the post-revolutionary land reform (Reforma Agrária) in Alentejo. ''O Primo Basílio'' ("Cousin Bazilio") is one of the most highly regarded realist novels of the Portuguese author José Maria de Eça de Queiroz, also known under the modernized spelling Eça de Queirós. He worked in the Portuguese consular service, stationed at 53 Grey Street, Newcastle upon Tyne, from late 1874 until April 1879.
