Cec Ruddell
Cecil Alfred Ruddell (23 May 1917 – 10 December 1990) was an Australian rules footballer who played with Essendon in the Victorian Football League (VFL) during the 1940s. Ruddell was a key player in Essendon's defence in what was a strong decade for the club, just once in his nine seasons did they miss out on the finals. Usually a fullback, it was in that position that he played in the Bomber's 1942 and 1946 VFL premiership sides. Ruddell also played in Essendon's losing VFL grand finals in 1941, 1943, 1947 and the two 1948 grand finals! He filled in as coach of Essendon for a game in 1945 and another the following season. An ankle injury ended his VFL career. 1948 VFL Grand Final
The 1948 VFL Grand Final and Grand Final Replay were a pair of Australian rules football games contested between the Melbourne Football Club and Essendon Football Club, held at the Melbourne Cricket Ground in October 1948. They were the 50th and 51st Grand Finals of the Victorian Football League, staged to determine the premiers for the 1948 VFL season. The Grand Final match, attended by 86,198 spectators on 2 October 1948, ended in a draw, the first time that a VFL Grand Final resulted in a draw. A replay was staged on 9 October 1948, attended by 52,226 spectators, in which Melbourne easily defeated Essendon by 39 points, marking that club's sixth VFL premiership. Camberwell Football Club
Camberwell Football Club was an Australian rules football club which formed around the mid-1880s, with a published match in 1886 and competed in the Victorian Football Association (VFA) between 1926 and 1990. Nicknamed the Cobras, Camberwell wore blue, white and red club colours. They were based in the Melbourne suburb of Camberwell. History Camberwell FC competed in the Victorian Junior Football Association in 1888, finishing sixth on the ladder, 8th in 1890 and 8th in 1891. At the 1895 VJFA – AGM, the competition was reduced from 20 teams to 12 teams and Camberwell was one of the clubs that was not admitted and it appears that Camberwell FC went into recess for a number of years, before joining the Eastern Suburbs Football Association in 1899. The 1947 VFL Grand Final was an Australian rules football match contested between the Carlton Football Club and Essendon Football Club, held at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on 27 September 1947. It was the 49th annual Grand Final of the Victorian Football League, staged to determine the premiers for the 1947 VFL season. The match, attended by 85,793 spectators, was won by Carlton by one point, marking that club's eighth VFL premiership. The winning goal was kicked by Fred Stafford in the dying seconds of the match to give Carlton the win.
