1948 VFL Grand Final
The 1948 VFL Grand Final and Grand Final Replay were a pair of Australian rules football games contested between the Melbourne Football Club and Essendon Football Club, held at the Melbourne Cricket Ground in October 1948. They were the 50th and 51st Grand Finals of the Victorian Football League, staged to determine the premiers for the 1948 VFL season. The Grand Final match, attended by 86,198 spectators on 2 October 1948, ended in a draw, the first time that a VFL Grand Final resulted in a draw. A replay was staged on 9 October 1948, attended by 52,226 spectators, in which Melbourne easily defeated Essendon by 39 points, marking that club's sixth VFL premiership. Harry Equid
Harry Equid (8 October 1923 – 2 February 1984) was an Australian rules footballer who played for Essendon in the Victorian Football League (VFL) during the 1940s. Football Equid began his VFL career after serving with the army in World War II and made his debut against North Melbourne, in the final game of the 1945 season, kicking three goals. In 1946 he continued where he had left off and started the season with a goalscoring sequence of three, three and seven. He finished the year with 35 goals, the last of which came from the half forward flank in Essendon's Grand Final win over Melbourne. He was also used as a follower. Keith Rawle
Keith Trevillian Rawle (29 October 1924 – 6 March 2005) was an Australian rules footballer who played for Essendon in the Victorian Football League (VFL) during the 1940s. Family He was the son of former North Melbourne and Essendon footballer George Rawle. Football Rawle usually played as a forward pocket and had two stints with Essendon. He was a member of Essendon premiership teams in 1946 and again in 1949 when he kicked three goals in what would be his last game. He also played in three losing Grand Final sides, all of which were close games. Dick Reynolds
Richard Sylvannus Reynolds (20 June 1915 – 2 September 2002) was an Australian rules footballer who played for the Essendon Football Club in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Reynolds is one of four footballers to have won three Brownlow Medals, the others being Haydn Bunton Sr., Bob Skilton and Ian Stewart. William Henry Hutchison (28 April 1923 – 18 June 1982), often referred to as "Hutchy", was an Australian rules footballer in the Victorian Football League (VFL) with the Essendon Football Club, who played 290 VFL games, from 1942 to 1957, and kicked 496 goals. Robert Craig McClure (born April 29, 1952) is an American former professional baseball player and coach. He played in Major League Baseball as a left-handed pitcher from 1975 to 1993, most notably as a member of the Milwaukee Brewers with whom he won the 1982 American League pennant. Norman Walter Smith (21 November 1915 – 29 July 1973) was an Australian rules football player and coach in the Victorian Football League (VFL). After more than 200 games as a player with and , Smith began a twenty-year coaching career, including a fifteen-year stint at Melbourne.
