Cavity Search Records is a record label in Portland, Oregon that was formed in 1992 by Christopher Cooper and Denny Swofford. It is known for producing debut records by Hazel, Heatmiser, The Helio Sequence, King Black Acid, Richmond Fontaine, Danny Barnes, Saul Conrad, Pete Krebs, Korgy, Pete Krebs, Richmond Fontaine, and Elliott Smith. Cavity Search Records was recognized on their 26th anniversary by Mayor Ted Wheeler and the city of Portland. September 21, 2018 was proclaimed to be Cavity Search Records day for the label's contribution to the city's art and creative industry, and its commitment to uncovering and supporting local artistry. Christopher Cooper passed away September 24, 2018. A memorial was held October 18th that year. CD Baby, Inc. is an online distributor of independent music. The company was described as an "anti-label" by its parent company's Chief Operating Officer Tracy Maddux. Ensemble Resonanz
The Ensemble Resonanz is a German string ensemble that combines the performance and promotion of Neue Musik with the interpretation of classical repertoire. It sees itself at the interface between chamber orchestra and soloist ensemble for Neue Musik.The ensemble is based in Hamburg, where it is an Ensemble in Residence of the Elbphilharmonie. History The ensemble was founded in 1994 by members of the Junge Deutsche Philharmonie. After stations in Frankfurt and in Diez an der Lahn, in 2002 the Hamburg became the home of the ensemble. ''Young Effectuals'' is the second release from the Portland-based band The Helio Sequence. It was released on October 9, 2001, by Cavity Search Records. It is less pop-oriented than their later albums, and it features longer songs densely layered with synthesizers. Reception In his review of the album for AllMusic, Richie Unterberger says the Helio Sequence combine "dense electric textures in which the voice is just another hazy element with atmospheric keyboards, guitar, and electronic effects", but that the songs eventually blur "together into similar overall moods as the disc progresses." Greg Gilmore
Greg Gilmore (born January 3, 1962) is a French born-American musician in Seattle, Washington, and co-founder of the recording label First World Music. Biography Although born in France, Gilmore grew up in the Seattle area. After playing in 10 Minute Warning with Duff McKagan (The Fartz, Guns N' Roses), Steve Verwolf, Paul Dana, Bob Groves, and David Garrigues, Gilmore decided to join his friend Duff McKagan when he announced he was leaving Seattle for a new life in L.A, and accompanied him in his early auditions. ''Roman Candle'' is the debut studio album by American singer-songwriter Elliott Smith. It was recorded in late 1993 and released on July 14, 1994 by record label Cavity Search. Background and recording ''Roman Candle'' was recorded and released while Smith was still in Heatmiser. According to Benjamin Nugent's biography '' Elliott Smith and the Big Nothing'', Smith recorded the album in the basement of the home of then-girlfriend and Heatmiser manager JJ Gonson. The album was never intended for release, as Smith only expected to get a deal for a 7" single; however, after Gonson played the album for Cavity Search, they immediately requested permission to release it in its entirety. Smith at first hesitated, and then allowed permission. Content The album has a raw, homemade sound, with Smith playing each instrument and recording it on his four-track recorder. Wayne Horvitz
Wayne Horvitz (born 1955) is an American composer, keyboardist and record producer. He came to prominence in the Downtown scene of 1980s and '90s New York City, where he met his future wife, the singer, songwriter and pianist Robin Holcomb. He is noted for working with John Zorn's Naked City among others. Horvitz has since relocated to the Seattle, Washington area where he has several ongoing groups and has worked as an adjunct professor of composition at Cornish College of the Arts.
