Cavan
Cavan ( ; ) is the county town of County Cavan in Ireland. The town lies in Ulster, near the border with County Fermanagh in Northern Ireland. The town is bypassed by the main N3 road that links Dublin (to the south) with Enniskillen, Ballyshannon and Donegal Town (to the north). History Gaelic Cavan 1300–1607 Cavan was founded by the Irish clan chief and Lord of East Breifne, Giolla Íosa Ruadh O’Reilly, between 1300 and his death in 1330. During his lordship, a friary run by the Dominican Order was established close to the O’Reilly stronghold at Tullymongan and was at the centre of the settlement close to a crossing over the river and to the town's marketplace. It is recorded that the (Cavan) Dominicans were expelled in 1393, replaced by an Order of Conventual Franciscan friars. Castlerahan GAA
Castlerahan is a Gaelic football club from Ballyjamesduff, County Cavan, Ireland. They take their name from the Castlerahan barony in which Ballyjamesduff is located. History The club was founded in its current state in 1961, Ballyjamesduff and Castlerahan fielding separate teams prior to then. The club reached its first Senior Championship final in 1968, losing to Crosserlough. In 2011, the club reached its first senior final since 1968. They lost the final heavily to Cavan Gaels. It was four years before Castlerahan reached another county final against Kingscourt Stars in 2015. Castlerahan came up one point short on that occasion. Castlerahan lost further finals to neighbours Ramor United after a replay in 2016, and to Cavan Gaels again in 2017. Castlerahan played in their fourth consecutive final in 2018, facing Crosserlough. Cornafean is a Gaelic Athletic Association club based in the rural parishes of Killeshandra and Kilmore, in County Cavan, Ireland. The club plays Gaelic Football and competes in Cavan GAA competitions. Cornafean is the most successful club in Cavan, having won 20 Cavan Senior Football Championships. Mullahoran GAA is a Gaelic games club from County Cavan in Ireland. Founded in 1888, it is affiliated to Cavan GAA. The club's nickname is ''the Dreadnoughts''. It is a rural club located in the parish of Mullahoran in south Cavan, approximately 10 miles from Cavan town. Gaelic football, rounders, hurling and handball are played at the club and numerous county and national honours have been won in the past in these codes. Drumlane Sons of O’Connell is a Gaelic football club based in Milltown, County Cavan, Ireland. The club takes its name from the parish of Drumlane. Killeshandra GFC
Killeshandra are a Gaelic football club from Killeshandra, County Cavan in Ireland. They are affiliated to Cavan GAA. History In 1889 there were three clubs in the parish, Arva Davitts, Killeshandra National Leaguers and Cornafean Tom Moronies. By the 1890s the G.A.A. had more or less died out in the area. However, by 1900 it began to re-emerge. In 1901 there were two teams in the parish, Drumanery Emmets and Killeshandra De Wits. Throughout the next few years various teams in the parish would come and go. During the 1910s and 1920s the Leaguers had great difficulty in surviving as a club. Cornafean, founded in 1908, would quickly establish itself as one of the leading clubs in the county competing at Senior Level Football. The glamour of playing senior football with the best club attracted many of the best players in the surrounding areas of Killeshandra, Arva, Kilmore, Gowna and Lacken. Arva St Patrick's is a Gaelic football club based in Arvagh, County Cavan, Ireland. History The Arva Davitt's club was founded in 1888. The club's first championship success came in 1933, winning the Cavan Junior Football Championship. The Davitt's club and the neighbouring Cormore club joined in 1964 to form the Arva St Patrick's club, and went on to win the Cavan Intermediate Football Championship in 1972. The club added a further title at intermediate level in 1983 and the Junior Championship in 1993. A young Arva team reached the final of the Junior Championship in 2013, losing by a point to Kill. Ballinagh is a Gaelic football club based in Ballinagh, County Cavan, Ireland. History The club was founded in 1888. The club reached the final of the Senior Championship in 1961 and 1986, but came up short on both occasions. After winning the Cavan Intermediate title in 2007, Ballinagh went on to reach the Ulster final. Ballinagh beat Antrim champions Dunloy by eight points to become the first Cavan side to win the competition. CLG Cúchulainn, also known as Cúchulainn's are a Gaelic football club from Mullagh, County Cavan in Ireland. They are affiliated to Cavan GAA. History 1970's From the inception of the club, on Thursday 18 December 1969, CLG Cuchulainn made its presence felt in Division 1 of the Cavan senior league and senior championship. In the first round of the 1970 Cavan senior championship, Cuchulainns beat Cornafean after a replay. The club's participation in its initial championship came to an end when beaten by Baileborough on a score line of 0–9 to 0–8 at the quarter-final stage of the championship in Breffni Park, on Sunday 30 August 1970. In May 1971 Cuchulainns met the vastly more experienced Crosserlough in the 1970 league final. Incidentally Crosserlough were on their way to winning a record breaking seven in a row senior championship. Lavey are a Gaelic football club from County Cavan in Ireland. They are affiliated with Cavan GAA. The parish of Lavey (formerly also transcribed as "Lavay" or "Lowey"; from the Gaelic "Leamhach", a place producing elm trees") is in the barony of Upper Loughtee, County Cavan, between Stradone and Ballyjamesduff, near Virginia.
