Catrine Bengtsson
Catrine Bengtsson (born 21 September 1969) is a retired female badminton player from Sweden. Career Bengtsson competed in badminton at the 1992 Summer Olympics in women's singles and women's doubles with Maria Bengtsson, and they lost in quarterfinals to Guan Weizhen and Nong Qunhua, of China, 15-4, 15-9. She also competed in the 1996 Summer Olympics in the three events: women's singles, women's doubles with Margit Borg and mixed doubles with Peter Axelsson. In 1994, she won the European Badminton Championships in mixed doubles with Denmark's Michael Søgaard. Badminton had its debut as an official medal sport at the 1992 Summer Olympics. It was held from 28 July to 4 August 1992. Four events were held in the first competition of the sport: men's singles, women's singles, men's doubles, and women's doubles. Badminton was contested in the Pavelló de la Mar Bella. 36 nations entered competitors, with a total of 177 entrants. Asian nations won fifteen of the sixteen medals, with their dominance being broken only by Denmark's bronze medal in the men's singles. The tournament was single-elimination. Thomas Lund
Thomas Haubro Lund (born 2 August 1968) is a retired badminton player from Denmark who affiliate with Kastrup Magleby club. Career Lund was one of the world's leading doubles specialists of the 1990s, particularly in mixed doubles. He was a silver medalist in both men's and mixed doubles at the 1991 IBF World Championships. In 1993 and 1995 he won consecutive gold medals in mixed doubles at the IBF World Championships, the first with Sweden's Catrine Bengtsson and the second with his compatriot Marlene Thomsen. From 1990 through 1994 Lund won five consecutive mixed doubles titles with three different partners at the now defunct World Badminton Grand Prix. IBF World Championships
The BWF World Championships, formerly known as IBF World Championships, and also known as the World Badminton Championships, is a badminton tournament sanctioned by Badminton World Federation (BWF). The tournament is one of the most prestigious in badminton, offering the most ranking points, together with the Summer Olympics badminton tournaments which was first introduced in 1992. The winners of this tournament are also crowned as "World Champions" of the sport, and are awarded a gold medal. The tournament started in 1977 and was held once every three years until 1983.
