''Catene'' is a 1974 Italian melodrama film directed by Silvio Amadio. The film is the remake of the 1949 top grossing film with the same title by Raffaello Matarazzo. It was a commercial failure, grossing about 60 million lire. Silvio Amadio (8 August 1926 – 19 August 1995) was an Italian film director and screenwriter. He directed 24 films between 1957 and 1981. His film ''Wolves of the Deep'' was entered into the 9th Berlin International Film Festival. He is known to horror film fans for directing ''Amuck!'' (1972), a giallo film starring Rosalba Neri and Barbara Bouchet, and to Commedia sexy all'italiana fans for directing some of the best Gloria Guida sex comedies of the mid 1970s. Rosemarie Dexter (19 July 1944 – 8 September 2010), best known as Rosemary Dexter, was a British film actress who worked in Italy. Life and career Born in Quetta to a British father and an Anglo-Burmese mother, Dexter entered the film industry in 1963, when during a vacation in Rome she met director Ugo Gregoretti who offered her a significant role in his science fiction film ''Omicron''. She then became a very active actress until the mid-seventies, when she retired from acting at age 32. She was found dead in her house in Recanati, in September 2010; she had long been suffering from illness. Tuccio Musumeci (born 20 April 1934) is an Italian actor and comedian. José Greci
José Greci (10 January 1941 – 1 June 2017) was an Italian film, television and stage actress. Life and career Born in Ferrara as Giuseppina Greci, the daughter of the journalist and television writer Luigi. In 1956 at just fifteen years old Greci enrolled at the Silvio D'Amico National Academy of Dramatic Art; after two years she left the Academy to debut on stage. Greci made her film debut in 1959, playing the Virgin Mary in William Wyler's '' Ben-Hur''. From then she started appearing in dozens of genre films, soon becoming one of the most prolific actresses in 1960s Italian cinema, particularly becoming a star in the sword-and-sandal and eurospy genres. Also active on television, she gradually abandoned her career during the seventies. She died in Rome, Italy on 1 June 2017, aged 76. Domenico "Mimmo" Palmara (25 July 1928 – 10 June 2016) was an Italian actor. Biography Born in Cagliari, Palmara made his film debut in 1952 as a character actor in drama films by eminent directors such as Luchino Visconti, Mario Monicelli and Antonio Pietrangeli, then obtained main roles in a great number of genre films, especially adventure films and peplum films. When the sword and sandals genre declined, he took part at a number of Spaghetti Westerns in which he is usually credited as Dick Palmer. Maurizio Merli (February 8, 1940 – March 10, 1989) was an Italian film actor and a star of many Italian police thrillers. Career After a decade of minor film roles, 1974 saw a breakthrough for Merli with his first starring role in a remake of romantic drama '' Catene'', and brought in as lead in the third of a franchise for '' White Fang to the Rescue'', in part due to his resemblance to Franco Nero. However the following year became a true banner one for Merli when he made ''Violent Rome'' which was an enormous success, and made him the star of ''poliziotteschi'' genre. He went on to make 11 more, two as Commissario Betti, Merli's character in ''Violent Rome''. Betti is a detective who metes out apoplectic violence, and in some way the character was an exploitative imitation of American police thrillers like Dirty Harry and a film of Nero.
