The national symbols of Catalonia are flags, icons or cultural expressions that are emblematic, representative or otherwise characteristic of Catalonia or Catalan culture. St George's Cross
In heraldry, Saint George's Cross, the Cross of Saint George, is a red cross on a white background, which from the Late Middle Ages became associated with Saint George, the military saint, often depicted as a crusader. Associated with the crusades, the red-on-white cross has its origins in the 10th century. It has been used as the ensign of the Republic of Genoa from perhaps as early as the 10th century. The Spanish Republic (), commonly known as the Second Spanish Republic (), was the form of government in Spain from 1931 to 1939. Seal Of The Generalitat De Catalunya
The Seal of the Generalitat de Catalunya is the symbol that represents the Generalitat de Catalunya institutions and related organs. It was designed by Bartomeu Llongueras during the Second Spanish Republic. Traditionally, the St George's Cross had been used as the Generalitat's seal. After Spain's transition to democracy and the restoration of Catalonia's self-government, it was reinstated, albeit in a slightly modified version, in order to avoid confusion when placing the seal upside down (described by statute in 1981, decree 7/1981).
