Casupá is a town in the Florida Department of southern-central Uruguay. Geography The town is located on Route 7, around northeast of Montevideo. History Casupá was founded on 15 September 1908, and on 12 June 1924, it was declared "Pueblo" (village) by the Act of Ley N° 7.728. It was then elevated to the category of "Villa" (town) on 5 July 1956 by the Act of Ley No. 12.297. Population In 2011, Casupá had a population of 2,402. Florida () is a department of Uruguay. Its capital is Florida. It is located in the south of the central part of the country with Durazno Department to its north, the departments of Treinta y Tres and Lavalleja to its east, Canelones Department to its south and the departments of Flores and San José to its west. History Florida Department was formed on 10 July 1856 from part of San José Department. In 1760 the first populated place in its territory started by creating a fortress, the FortÃn del Pintado, and in 1809 the "Villa de San Fernando de la Florida" was created. During the events of the Independence of Uruguay, a temporary government was set up in this town, and on 25 August 1825, the ''Congreso de la Florida'' proclaimed the three fundamental laws of the new independent country. Uruguay consists of 19 departments (''departamentos''). Each department has a legislature called a Departmental Board. The ''Intendente'' is the department's chief executive. History The first division of the Republic into six departments occurred on 27 January 1816. In February of the same year, two more departments were formed, and in 1828 one more was added. When the First Constitution was signed in 1830, there were nine departments. These were the departments of Montevideo, Maldonado, Canelones, San José, Colonia, Soriano, Paysandú, Durazno and Cerro Largo. At that time, the department of Paysandú occupied all the territory north of the RÃo Negro, which included the current departments of Artigas, Rivera, Tacuarembó, Salto, Paysandú and RÃo Negro. Telephone Numbers In Uruguay
Uruguay's calling code is +598. Since 2010, national long distance calling was eliminated, thus there are no area codes in each city. Landline telephony ANTEL (Spanish abbreviation for National Administration of Telecommunications) is Uruguay's state-owned company for telecommunications. Previously in Uruguay, phone numbers used to have between 4 and 7 digits. To make a local phone call, you only had to dial those digits. To make a call between two cities from different departments, you had to dial zero, plus area code, plus phone number. As from August 29, 2010, all phone numbers have 8 digits, according to the new National Numbering Plan. Zero prior to area code was eliminated. Montevideo () is the Capital city, capital and List of cities in Uruguay, largest city of Uruguay. According to the 2011 census, the city proper has a population of 1,319,108 (about one-third of the country's total population) in an area of . Montevideo is situated on the southern coast of the country, on the northeastern bank of the RÃo de la Plata.
