Castlegar, British Columbia
Castlegar is the second-largest community in the West Kootenay region of British Columbia, Canada. In the Selkirk Mountains, at the confluence of the Kootenay and Columbia Rivers, it is a regional trade and transportation centre, with a local economy based on forestry, mining and tourism. Castlegar was recently cited as one of the Top Eight Places in British Columbia for most promising growth. It is home to Selkirk College, a regional airport, a pulp mill, and several sawmills. Its population of 7,259 includes many Doukhobors, who were largely responsible for much of the town's early development and growth. The area which became Castlegar was an important centre for the Sinixt (Lakes) Peoples. Castlegar Airport
The West Kootenay Regional Airport (Castlegar Airport) is a small regional airport located south southeast of Castlegar, British Columbia, Canada. It serves the West Kootenay region, including Castlegar, Nelson and Trail. It is owned and operated by the City of Castlegar, and has a passenger terminal. Due to the mountainous terrain impinging on both runway approaches, there is no possibility of a straight-in approach. The airport is therefore certified for day operations only, and the glideslope on approach is set to a steep 5.0° rather than the standard 3.0°. The instrument approaches to Castlegar are considered among the most challenging of any in use at a commercial airport in North America. In 2006, Castlegar airport was developing departure procedures for night time operation, but as of 2010 the airport was certified for daytime operation only. Castlegar Rebels
The Castlegar Rebels are a junior 'B' ice hockey team based in Castlegar, British Columbia, Canada. They are members of the Neil Murdoch Division of the Kootenay Conference of the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League (KIJHL). The Rebels play their home games at the Castlegar and District Community Complex. The Rebels played junior 'A' in the Rocky Mountain Junior Hockey League from 1996 until 1998. History The Rebels joined the league in 1976 as an expansion team. The Rebels have won the KIJHL Championship four times, in 1977, 1978, 1996 and 2013. Castlegar Apollos
The Castlegar Apollos were a junior 'B' ice hockey team based in Castlegar, British Columbia, Canada. They were members of the Western Division of the Kootenay Hockey League (KHL) from 1967 to 1970 and members of the Western Division of the West Kootenay Hockey League (WKHL) in 1970 (now known as the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League (KIJHL)). Castlegar () is a village and Roman Catholic parish in County Galway, Ireland, located just outside the city of Galway. It extends from Lough Corrib across to Merlin Park by the old Galway-Dublin road. The annual Galway Races are held at Ballybrit Racecourse in the area. Castlegar GAA
Castlegar GAA is a Gaelic Athletic Association club located in the parish of Castlegar in County Galway, Ireland. The club is almost exclusively concerned with the game of hurling. Overview It is believed that hurling has been played in Castlegar since the 1880s. No records exist regarding hurling in the area prior to that decade, however, local folklore has it that the parish had a hurling team prior to 1880. Most of the matches played by Castlegar in those days were played in Claregalway, Turloughmore and Oranmore. At the time the Gaelic Athletic Association was founded in 1884, Castlegar was considered to be the best team in the west of the city of Galway.
