John William Hamilton (Irish Politician)
John William Hamilton was an American bishop of the Methodist Episcopal Church, elected in 1900. He was the chancellor of American University from 1916 until 1922. He was the older brother of Franklin Elmer Ellsworth Hamilton, who was also both a Methodist Bishop and the Chancellor of American University. Birth and family John was born March 18, 1845 in Weston, Virginia (now West Virginia). He was the son of the Rev. William Cooper Patrick and Henrietta Maria (Dean) Hamilton. William was a respected clergy member of the Pittsburgh Annual Conference of the M.E. Church. He served churches in western Pennsylvania, western Virginia and eastern Ohio. Edward Kirwan (Irish Politician)
Edward Dominick Geoffrey Martin Kirwan (5 August 1814 – 27 June 1890) was an English clergyman, author and cricketer who played in first-class cricket matches for Cambridge University between 1834 and 1837. He was born in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire and died at Dover, Kent. As a cricketer, Kirwan played in six Cambridge matches as a batsman; there is no record that he bowled. He was not notably successful in any of his first-class matches and his highest score in nine innings was just 15; he was not selected for the University Match against Oxford University in any of his Cambridge seasons. Kirwan's younger brother, John, was very much more successful in his cricket career and played alongside him in a few Cambridge games from 1836. John Knox (born 1728)
John Knox ( gd, Iain Cnocc; born – 24 November 1572) was a Scottish minister, Reformed theologian, and writer who was a leader of the country's Reformation. He was the founder of the Presbyterian Church of Scotland. Born in Giffordgate, a street in Haddington, East Lothian, Knox is believed to have been educated at the University of St Andrews and worked as a notary-priest. Influenced by early church reformers such as George Wishart, he joined the movement to reform the Scottish church. He was caught up in the and political events that involved the murder of Cardinal David Beaton in 1546 and the intervention of the regent Mary of Guise. He was taken prisoner by French forces the following year and exiled to England on his release in 1549. Charles Bingham, 1st Earl Of Lucan
Charles Bingham, 1st Earl of Lucan (22 September 1735 – 29 March 1799), known as Sir Charles Bingham, 7th Baronet, from 1750 until 1776, was an Irish peer and politician. Background He was the second son of Sir John Bingham, 5th Baronet, and his wife Anne Vesey, daughter of Agmondesham Vesey. In 1750, Bingham succeeded his older brother John as baronet. Career Bingham was appointed High Sheriff of Mayo in 1756. He was elected as Member of Parliament for both Castlebar and Mayo in 1761, and chose to sit for the latter. John Browne, 1st Earl of Altamont (c.1709 – 4 July 1776), known as The Lord Mount Eagle between 1760 and 1768 and as The Viscount Westport between 1768 and 1771, was an Irish peer and politician.
