Casino Theatre (Toronto)
The Casino Theatre was a live theatre, in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. It was located at 87 Queen Street West across the street from the current site of Nathan Phillips Square. The structure was designed by architects Kaplan & Sprachman, who designed 21 other theatres in Toronto, and 48 elsewhere in Canada. The theatre opened in 1936 and demolished in 1960. It seated almost 1,200 patrons. The theatre hosted well-known performers, such as Johnny Rae, Patti Page, Gene Nelson, Pearl Bailey, Phil Silvers, Abbott and Costello, Nat King Cole, Sammy Davis Jr., Mickey Rooney, Frankie Laine, Sally Rand, Gypsy Rose Lee, Rose La Rose, Cup Cakes Cassidy, the Crewcuts, the Four Lads, Golden Gate Quartet, Billy Daniels and Rosemary Clooney. The strippers, and baudy comedians who performed at Casino made the Casino particularly subject to commentary and complaints. Casino Theatre (Copenhagen)
The Casino Theatre was a theatre located at Amaliegade 10 in Copenhagen, Denmark. It was built as an entertainment venue by Tivoli Gardens-founder Georg Carstensen but was converted into a theatre in 1848. It closed in 1937 and the building was demolished in 1960. History Origins Built by Georg Carstensen, founder of Tivoli Gardens, Casino was originally envisioned as a "Winter Tivoli" with bazaar, promenade concerts and soirées. Carstensen financed the project through the sale of shares. In November 1845, he had raised 200,000 Danish rigsdaler. The building was designed by H. C. Stilling who had also worked for Carstensen during the establishment of Tivoli Gardens. The entertainment venue opened on 22 February 1847. Casino Theatre (San Diego)
The Casino Theatre building is an historic structure located at 643 5th Avenue in the Gaslamp Quarter, San Diego, in the state of California. It was built in 1912. The Casino Theater opened in 1913. It was later remodeled in the 1930s into an Art Deco style. In the early 1970's it was operated by Pussycat Theatre, but kept the Casino name. In 1980, the Gaslamp Quarter was listed on the National Registrar of Historical Places and in 2012 the buildings were restored as part of the Gaslamp Quarter preservation and are now retail shops. Earl Carroll Theatre
The Earl Carroll Theatre was a Broadway theatre at 753 Seventh Avenue near 50th Street in the Theater District of Midtown Manhattan in New York City. Built by impresario Earl Carroll and designed by architect George Keister, it opened on February 25, 1922, and was highly successful for a number of years until it was demolished and rebuilt on a lavish scale. It reopened in August 1931 with Carroll's billing that it was "the largest legitimate theater in the world." However, the facility's operating costs proved astronomical and it went into foreclosure in early 1932 after which it was acquired by producer Florenz Ziegfeld who renamed it the Casino Theatre. The Casino was the site of a very successful revival of Ziegfeld's production of ''Show Boat'' in 1932. However, Ziegfeld too went bankrupt only a short time later. The Casino Theatre Entertainment Center was a two-screen movie house and ice cream shop in Mount Pocono, Pennsylvania. This year-round family-owned and operated business, founded in 1975, was built on the site of the Casino dance hall and night club, which was itself established in 1922. In addition to first-run movies, the Casino housed the Village Malt Shoppe, which features an old-fashioned soda fountain offering ice cream soda, malted milk, milkshake, egg cream and phosphates, as well as a large selection of ice cream flavors. There was also a redemption game room geared toward younger children, and an 18-hole miniature golf course. In 2022, following the sale of the Theatre from the family owning it since its opening in 1975 reports emerged that the theatre would be converted into a Vietnamese restaurant by its new owners.
