Pavlos Carrer
Pavlos Carrer (also Paolo Carrer; el, Παύλος Καρρέρ; 12 May 1829 – 7 June 1896) was a Greek composer, one of the leaders of the Ionian art music school and the first to create national operas and national songs on Greek plots, Greek librettos and verses, as well as melodies inspired by the folk and the urban popular musical tradition of modern Greece. Biography Carrer was a descendant of a noble family of Zante. He studied music in his birthplace with the Italian teachers Giuseppe Cricca, Francesco Marangoni and possibly in Corfu with Nikolaos Mantzaros. A natural musical talent, but also in harmony with the cultural atmosphere of the Ionian Islands of the time, which was dominated by Italian opera and western European culture, he composed his first small musical pieces in the late 1840s. ''Carrer de Balmes'' (), named after the Catalan philosopher and ecclesiastic Jaume Balmes, is one of the most important avenues in Barcelona (Catalonia, Spain). It was devised in 1859 as part of Ildefons Cerdà urban plan. Balmes is along '' Carrer Muntaner'' the longest road stretching from the sea towards the mountainside. It starts in the crossing of Pelai and Bergara streets and crosses the Eixample and Sant Gervasi districts, ending in Plaça John Fitzgerald Kennedy, by '' Avinguda del Tibidabo'' and ''Tramvia Blau''. The Sant Gervasi part of the street was constructed after 1908. It is considered the central street of Eixample, with ''Dreta de l'Eixample'' to its right, and ''Esquerra de l'Eixample'' to its left. As with most of the other large streets in the area, it is 20 metres wide, with the difference that its sidewalks are less broad than the average. It's one of the horizontal streets of the urban grid that makes up Eixample district, spanning the Esquerra de l'Eixample and the Dreta de l'Eixample quarters, starting at the Parc de Joan Miró by carrer de Vilamarí and ending in the neighbourhood of El Clot, by Avinguda Meridiana, in the Sant Martí district. Carrer d'Entença (official Catalan name; known in Spanish as ''Calle Entenza'') is a street in Barcelona, situated in the left half (''Esquerra de l'Eixample'') of the Eixample district's grid plan. It's named after House of Entença nobleman Berenguer d'Entença i Montcada, who captained a number of expeditions towards the East in the 13th century. The naming was approved on December 19, 1863 and was already plan of Ildefons Cerdà's urban plan, even though under the tentative name of "15th street". In 1925 it was extended, reaching Avinguda Diagonal, beyond which it becomes Carrer del Doctor Fleming.
