Carrefour Saint-Georges
The Carrefour Saint-Georges is a shopping centre located in Saint-Georges, Quebec, Canada which opened in 1974. Its current anchors include Super C and Bureau en Gros. Brief history The mall opened in 1974 and was then anchored by Zellers, A&P and Greenberg. In 1977, A&P became Provigain and in 1979, became a Provigo. The mall was completely renovated and expanded in 1992 and a new Sears store was added in a new wing. In 1997, Greenberg was replaced by SAAN. That store later closed and the mall transformed the area into smaller stores. Provigo left the mall in 2002 and the space has been leased by Bureau en Gros. In 2011, Target Corporation acquired a group of Zellers sites to convert the vast majority of them into Target stores. The Saint-Georges store was among them and was officially confirmed as a future Target store. Saint-Georges () is a city in the province of Quebec. It is the seat of Beauce-Sartigan Regional County Municipality, part of the Chaudière-Appalaches region. The population was 32,935 as of the Canada 2021 Census. Route 173 runs through Saint-Georges Est (where it is known as Boulevard Lacroix) and heads south to the border with Maine, USA. Super C is a Quebec discount supermarket chain with 98 stores in Quebec. The stores average in size. Super C offers 8,000 products including some 1,200 products from the Super C private label brand. Super C traces its origins as La Ferme Carnaval founded on September 15, 1982 which opened a supermarket under the trade name Super Carnaval on January 12, 1983 in Beauport, Quebec. The company was acquired by Metro-Richelieu on June 1, 1987 from Toronto-based Burnac Corporation. In 1991, the 14 Super Carnaval outlets were converted in phases to the new banner Super C with the last stores renamed by May 1992. Zellers was a Canadian discount department retail chain and is currently a brand name owned by the Hudson's Bay Company (HBC). Founded in 1931 in London, Ontario, in later decades it was based in Brampton, Ontario. Zellers was acquired by HBC in 1978 before closing in 2013. A series of acquisitions and expansions allowed Zellers to reach its peak in the 1990s, with 350 stores across the country in 1999. However, fierce competition by Walmart Canada and an inability to adjust to the increasingly volatile retailing industry resulted in Zellers losing significant ground in the 2000s. A&P Canada Company was a Canadian supermarket company that operated from 1927 until 2009, when its stores were rebranded under the Metro name by Metro Inc. SAAN Stores Ltd. was a Canadian chain of discount department stores founded in Winnipeg, Manitoba. SAAN is short for Surplus Army, Air Force, Navy. Target Canada
Target Canada Co. was the Canadian subsidiary of the Target Corporation, the eighth-largest retailer in the United States. Formerly headquartered in Mississauga, Ontario, the subsidiary was formed with the acquisition of Zellers store leases from the Hudson's Bay Company in January 2011. Target Canada opened its first store in March 2013, and was operating 133 locations by January 2015.
