Carol Ann Marie Bassett is a Bermudian businessperson and politician. Senate Of Bermuda
The Senate of Bermuda is the upper house of the Parliament of Bermuda, the other being the House of Assembly. The Senate consists of eleven members appointed by the Governor for five-year terms — five Senators are nominated by the Premier, three by the Leader of the Opposition, and three appointed at the discretion of the Governor. Of the three appointed by the Governor, the Senate elects one to serve as the President, and another to serve as the Vice President. The Senate serves as a house of review and serves as a road-block to constitutional change — the constitution requires a 2/3 super-majority (i.e., 8 votes) for a constitutional amendment, requiring the support of both the government and opposition appointees. The presiding officer of the Senate is the President of the Senate. Carol Bassett, who has been a Senator since 2003, was elected President in 2008, the first woman elected to the office. Pembroke Parish
Pembroke Parish is one of the nine parishes of Bermuda. It is named after English aristocrat William Herbert, 3rd Earl of Pembroke (1580–1630). It occupies most of the short peninsula which juts from the central north coast of Bermuda's main island, and surrounds the city of Hamilton, Bermuda, Hamilton on three sides (the fourth being taken up by the shore of Hamilton Harbour, Bermuda, Hamilton Harbour). As such, its shape bears some passing resemblance to the county of Pembrokeshire in Wales. The peninsula juts into the eastern side of the Great Sound, Bermuda, Great Sound, the large expanse of water which dominates the geography of western Bermuda. John Vereker (governor)
Sir John Michael Medlicott Vereker, KCB, KStJ, FRSA (born 9 August 1944) is a former British civil servant who served as Permanent Secretary for International Development (1994-2002) and Governor of Bermuda (2002-2007). Family and education Sir John Vereker is the younger son of Commander Charles William Medlicott Vereker (1903-1995) and Marjorie Hughes Whatley (d. 1984) and is a descendant of the second Viscount Gort. He was educated at Marlborough College, from which he won a scholarship to the University of Keele, graduating in 1967. He married in 1971 and has two children with his wife, Judy.
