Carmagnola
Carmagnola (; pms, Carmagnòla ) is a ''comune'' (municipality) in the Metropolitan City of Turin in the Italian region Piedmont, located south of Turin. The town is on the right side of the Po river. The nature of the soil determined over time how the river's sand accumulated. Carmagnola borders the following municipalities: Poirino, Villastellone, Carignano, Lombriasco, Ceresole Alba, Racconigi, Sommariva del Bosco, Caramagna Piemonte. History The municipality is mentioned for the first time during the 11th century. The land, originally owned by the Arduinic dynasty, passed to the Marquisate of Saluzzo, who had a castle built here. The Saluzzo dynasty soon underwent a rapid decadence ending with a French domination period which lasted 40 years. In 1588 Carmagnola became a possession of the House of Savoy, when Charles Emmanuel I besieged and conquered it. Caramagna Piemonte is a ''comune'' (municipality) in the Province of Cuneo in the Italian region Piedmont, located about south of Turin and about northeast of Cuneo. Caramagna Piemonte borders the following municipal lands: Carmagnola, Racconigi, and Sommariva del Bosco. History The name of Caramagna appears for the first time in 1026. The foundation of the Monastery of Santa Maria by the marquis of Turin Olderico greatly increased the power of the country, which extended its interests around the southern Piedmont and Liguria. The monastery was entrusted to the care of the nuns of the Order of St. Benedict; the same order was later replaced by the equivalent male order and later by the Girolamiti. La Carmagnole
"La Carmagnole" is the title of a French song created and made popular during the French Revolution, accompanied by a wild dance of the same name that may have also been brought into France by the Piedmontese. It was first sung in August 1792 and was successively added to during the revolutionary events of 1830, 1848, 1863–64, and 1882-83. The authors are not known. The title refers to the short jacket worn by working-class militant ''sans-culottes,'' adopted from the Piedmontese peasant costume named for the town of Carmagnola. It sarcastically sings of the triumphs over the Queen of France, Marie Antoinette (Madame Veto), King Louis XVI (Monsieur Veto), and the French monarchists in general.
