Carlson is an unincorporated community in Travis County, in the U.S. state of Texas. According to the Handbook of Texas, the community had a population of 61 in 2000. It is located within the Greater Austin metropolitan area. History Carlson was most likely given the name from a local family. In the middle of the 1930s, Carlson had a store, several houses, and 25 residents. 100 people were living in Carlson in 1945, while 61 people did so in 1972. On county highway maps from the early 1990s, the village was identified only by name. The population was still listed as 61 in 2000. The Geographic Names Information System (GNIS) is a database of name and locative information about more than two million physical and cultural features throughout the United States and its territories, Antarctica, and the associated states of the Marshall Islands, Federated States of Micronesia, and Palau. It is a type of gazetteer.
