Carlos Altamirano Sánchez
Carlos Altamirano Sánchez (born November 15, 1926) is a poet from Guayaquil, Ecuador. Biography Carlos Altamirano Sánchez was born in Guayaquil on November 15, 1926. His father was Santiago Altamirano Freile, from Tungurahua, and his mother was Delia Sánchez Rodríguez, from Pelileo. In 1954 his former professor Alfonso Aguilar Ruilova got him a job as a journalist at '' El Universo'', which he quit soon after to take part in the World Youth Congress in Poland, which he ultimately did not attend. In 1955 Sergio Román Armendáriz published an anthology of poetry titled ''33 Poemas Universitarios'', which included 3 of Altamirano Sánchez' poems: "6 a.m.", "Sueño Profético" and "Equivocación de Dios". In 1959 he taught literature at the Colegio Nacional Juan Bautista Aguirre. He returned to work for ''El Universo'' in 1957 and 1959. Tungurahua Province
Tungurahua ( es, Provincia del Tungurahua, literally ''Province of the Tungurahua''; ) is one of the twenty-four provinces of Ecuador. Its capital is Ambato. The province takes its name from the Tungurahua volcano, which is located within the boundaries of the provinces. Population In 2011, Tungurahua had an estimated population of 581,389. Approximately 10% of that population is made up of indigenous peoples, while another 70% are of mestizo or mixed race heritage. The final 20% is made up of peoples of African, Asian, and European ancestry. Climate The province has a dry, temperate climate. Like all mountainous areas, the region experiences the phenomenon known as microclimates, in which small portions of the province have drastically different conditions from others due to winds and area pressure. Pelileo
Pelileo (full form, San Pedro de Pelileo) is a city located at the center of the Andean region of Ecuador called ''La Sierra'' ("the highlands"). It is the seat of Pelileo Canton (48,988 inhabitants, 2001 Census), and forms part of Tungurahua Province. Pelileo is the second largest city in Tungurahua Province behind neighboring Ambato and is famous for the production and sale of blue jeans. Many travelers pass through Pelileo on their way from Ambato to Baños. History Pelileo was founded by Antonio Clavijo in 1570 and was elevated to the status of county on July 22, 1860. On August 5, 1949, Pelileo was totally destroyed by an earthquake. Some 5,000 people died within the limits of the county. The only remaining structure still visible from the old city is a broken stone pillar, once part of Pelileo's magnificent main church. A new city was rebuilt in a nearby location. ''El Universo'' (Spanish for "The Universe") is one of the largest daily newspapers in Ecuador. It was founded in 1921 and the first edition was published September 16 of the same year. Sergio Román Armendáriz
Sergio Román Armendáriz (born February 12, 1934) is an Ecuadorian poet, playwright, and university teacher. Roman Sergio Armendariz was born in Riobamba, Ecuador on February 12, 1934, at the home of Roman Nazario Armendariz Krelowa and Alejandrina Carranza. Armendáriz began his schooling in Guayaquil's Salesian College Christopher Columbus. He earned a bachelor's degree from the Vicente Rocafuerte College in 1951. Later, he joined the faculty of Law and Science Association of the University of Guayaquil, where he worked from 1952 to 1958. His first foray into writing was in journalism, a profession he started while he lived in Guayaquil. While living in Guayaquil as a young man he was a member of the group of young poets called "Club 7" (1951-1962).
