Biography Early life The Gancia family is famous as the owners of an Italian wine-producing company (Carlo is named after the founder of the dynasty in 1850, called Carlo Gancia). Carlo is the eldest of the 5th generation of Gancias. Carlo Vallarino was born in Canelli, Asti. Italy. His father, Piero Vallarino Gancia, was an amateur racing driver, who in 1966 was the first Brazilian Motor Racing Champion, driving an alfa Romeo Giulia Ti Super, he was among the founders of the Confederação Brasileira de Automobilismo, the national motorsport authority of Brazil. Shannon Racing, or the Shannon Racing Team, was a short-lived motorsport team that was briefly involved with the Forti Formula One team during the season. It was owned by a parent company known as FinFirst. Both entities were registered in the Republic of Ireland, but funded by Italian backers. Career Shannon established an International Formula 3000 team in 1996, taking over the Danielson team and running drivers Tom Kristensen and Luca Rangoni, and was also active in Formula Three. Kristensen took a pole position and fastest lap in the F3000 team's second race, but the campaign was cut short as Shannon entered Formula One part-way through the season. The team was known to be keen to move up to F1, and was expected to enter the season, but instead chose to buy 51% of the financially struggling Forti team prior to the 1996 Spanish Grand Prix. Champ Car World Series (CCWS) was the series sanctioned by Open-Wheel Racing Series Inc., or Champ Car, a sanctioning body for American open-wheel car racing that operated from 2004 to 2008. It was the successor to Championship Auto Racing Teams (CART), which sanctioned the 'PPG Indy Car World Series from 1979 until dissolving after the 2003 season. The Forti FG01, also designated Forti FG01-95, was a Formula One car for the 1995 season and was the first car made by Forti. The number 21 seat was taken by rookie Pedro Diniz and the number 22 seat was taken by veteran Roberto Moreno. The team never employed a test driver. The engine was a Ford EDD 3.0 V8. Paolo Guerci is an Italian engineer who has spent his career in auto racing. Career Guerci joined forces with retired racing driver Guido Forti to form the Forti racing team in 1972. He remained with the team throughout its rise through Formula Three and Formula 3000, and eventually its unsuccessful foray into Formula One in and . In 1994, Guido Forti found a new business partner in Carlo Gancia, who bought Guerci's shares in the team and set about raising the budget needed for Formula One with help from driver Pedro Diniz's family. Guerci stayed on as a race engineer for the team during its time in F1.
