Carla Lucero
Carla Lucero is an American composer and librettist. A native of Manhattan Beach, California, she now resides in Napa, California. She is of New Mexican and South Asian descent. While at CalArts, she studied with composers Rand Steiger, Leonard Rosenman and Alan Chapman. Her work is concentrated in opera, ballet and chamber music, and her compositional style has been described as complex, and highly melodic, drawing upon the Romantic and Neo-Classical periods, as well as from Flamenco music. She is recognized for incorporating period instruments and indigenous percussion into her orchestration. Education She holds a B.F.A. in Music Composition from California Institute of the Arts, 1986. Leonard Rosenman
Leonard Rosenman (September 7, 1924 – March 4, 2008) was an American film, television and concert composer with credits in over 130 works, including ''East of Eden (film), East of Eden'', ''Rebel without a Cause'', ''Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home'', ''Beneath the Planet of the Apes'', ''Barry Lyndon'' and the animated ''The Lord of the Rings (1978 film), The Lord of the Rings.'' Life and career Leonard Rosenman was born in Brooklyn, New York (state), New York, United States. His parents, Julius and Rose née Kantor, were Jewish immigrants from Poland. He had a younger brother named Paul. The California Institute of the Arts (CalArts) is a private art university in Santa Clarita, California. It was incorporated in 1961 as the first degree-granting institution of higher learning in the US created specifically for students of both the visual and performing arts. Alicia Gaspar De Alba
Alicia Gaspar de Alba is an American scholar, cultural critic, novelist, and poet whose works include historical novels and scholarly studies on Chicana/o art, culture and sexuality. Biography Gaspar de Alba was born on July 29, 1958 in El Paso, Texas near its border with Ciudad Juárez. She received a bachelor's in 1980 and a master's in 1983 in English from the University of Texas at El Paso, and a Ph.D. in American Studies in 1994 from the University of New Mexico. She teaches classes on border consciousness, bilingual creative writing, Chicana Lesbian literature, barrio popular culture, and graduate courses on Chicana theory. In 1994, she was one of six founding faculty members of the then César Chávez Center for Interdisciplinary Instruction in Chicana and Chicano Studies at University of California, Los Angeles. Lester Horton
Lester Iradell Horton (23 January 1906 – 2 November 1953) was an American dancer, choreographer, and teacher. Early years and education Lester Iradell Horton was born in Indianapolis, Indiana on 23 January 1906. His parents were Iradell and Pollyanna Horton. His interest in dance was mainly stimulated by his fascination with American Indian culture after watching tribal dances in a Wild West show. He studied the Iroquois and Red River Indians, and Penobscot and Ojibwa tribes. He studied ballet for two years with a local teacher in Indianapolis, Theo Hewes. At that time he also took classes at the Herron Art Institute and worked with the Indianapolis Little Theater. Seeing a performance of the Denishawn company had a great impact on him.
