Cassa di Risparmio delle Provincie Lombarde known as Cariplo SpA, was an Italian bank. On 2 January 1998 the bank merged with Banco Ambrosiano Veneto to form Banca Intesa. The company became a short-lived sub-holding company in late 1990s, which was completely absorbed circa 2000. History The bank was formed on 12 June 1823 by the count Giovanni Pietro Porro, in Kingdom of Lombardy–Venetia, decades before the unification of Italy. Situated in industrialized Northern Italy, the Lombard firm had become one of the major bank in Italy. Cassa di Risparmio di Calabria e Lucania S.p.A. (Carical) was an Italian bank based in Cosenza, Calabria. The bank was merged with other banks to form Banca Carime. History Cassa di Risparmio di Calabria was found on 24 September 1861. The bank later extended to Lucania (Basilicata region), as Cassa di Risparmio di Calabria e di Lucania. Fondazione Cariplo is a charitable foundation in Milan, Italy. It was created in December 1991 when the Amato law, Law no. 218 of 30 July 1990, came into force. Under this law, saving banks were required to separate into a not-for-profit foundation and a commercial banking arm. The Cassa di Risparmio delle Provincie Lombarde, commonly known as Cariplo, was divided into the Fondazione Cariplo and Cariplo SpA, the bank, which merged with Ambroveneto in 1998. As at 31 December 2014, the organisation had a shareholders equity of €6,889,487,562. Cassa di Risparmio della Provincia di Viterbo (Carivit) was an Italian bank and charity organization. The bank sector was acquired by Cariplo in 1990s. In 2015 Intesa Sanpaolo completely absorbed the bank. History Cassa di Risparmio di Viterbo was found in 1855 in Viterbo in the Papal States. The bank acquired the saving banks in Acquapendente, Bagnoregio and Carbognano in 1927 and Casse di Risparmio Riunite di Ronciglione, Sutri, Capranica e Caprarola in 1937, due to a reform to force small saving banks to merge with a larger one.
