Carignan
Carignan (also known as Mazuelo, Bovale Grande, Cariñena, Carinyena, Samsó, Carignane, and Carignano) is a red grape variety of Spanish origin that is more commonly found in French wine but is widely planted throughout the western Mediterranean and around the globe. Jean Carignan
Jean Carignan, (December 7, 1916 – February 16, 1988) was a Canadian fiddler from Quebec. Carignan was born in Lévis, Quebec on December 7, 1916, later moving to Sherbrooke and then Trois-Rivières with his family; the family moved to Montreal when Carignan was ten years old. As a child, Carignan studied with noted Quebec fiddler Joseph Allard, as well as learning the music of the great Irish fiddlers Michael Coleman and James Morrison and the Scottish fiddler James Scott Skinner. Carignan was a friend of famous violinist and conductor Yehudi Menuhin. In 1974, he was made a Member of the Order of Canada as "the greatest fiddler in North America". He died in Montreal on February 16, 1988 at the age of 71. Patrick Carignan (born October 11, 1974) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey left winger. Carignan played junior hockey in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League for the Saint-Jean Lynx and Shawinigan Cataractes from 1991 to 1995. In the 1994–95, Carignan won the Jean Béliveau Trophy after scoring 137 points, including 100 assists, in 71 games. He was also named in the QMJHL's First All-Star Team and the CHL Third All-Star Team. Onésime Carignan (October 16, 1839 – September 20, 1897) was a wholesale and retail grocer and political figure in Quebec. He represented Champlain in the House of Commons of Canada from 1891 to 1896 as a Conservative member. He was born in Champlain, Quebec, the son of Joseph Carignan and Josephte Turcotte. Jennie Carignan is a lieutenant-general in the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF). Early life, education, and family Carignan grew up in Asbestos, Quebec, in a French-speaking household. Growing up, the only career that she considered aside from the military was dancing as she had learned ballet, lyrical and jazz dancing since the age of eight. She joined the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) in 1986 and studied for a degree in fuels and materials engineering from the Royal Military College Saint-Jean. She received a commission in 1990 and served at the Canadian Forces Bases of Chilliwack and Valcartier. Carignan married Eric Lefrançois in 1990, having met while in the same platoon at military college and taking ballroom dance classes together whilst there. Harvey Louis Carignan (born May 18, 1927) is an American serial killer serving a life sentence at the Minnesota Correctional Facility – Faribault for the murders of two women. He had been previously convicted for a 1949 rape and murder he committed while stationed in the U.S. Army, in Anchorage, Alaska. Early life Carignan was born in North Dakota in 1927. Initial murder On July 31, 1949, Carignan killed 58-year-old Laura Showalter during an attempted rape in the Territory of Alaska. On September 16, 1949, he attempted to rape another woman, Christine Norton, and was arrested the next day. Carignan was convicted of first degree murder and assault with intent to commit rape. Carignan, Quebec
Carignan is a suburban municipality in southwestern Quebec, Canada, on the Richelieu River in La Vallée-du-Richelieu Regional County Municipality, about from Montreal. The population as of the Canada 2021 Census was 11,740. Carignan was originally the Village Municipality of Chambly. The village of Chambly was established in 1855, less than 10 years after the municipality of Chambly. In 1965 it was renamed Carignan to honour the Carignan-Salières Regiment. Geography Carignan is made up of small urban blocks surrounded by agricultural land where the main crops grown are corn, wheat and soybeans. Anatole Carignan
Anatole Carignan (July 7, 1885 – July 30, 1952) was a Canadian politician. Born in the parish of Saints-Anges-de-Lachine, Quebec, Carignan was educated at the Commercial College of Lachine. He worked for the Banque d'Épargne and the Bank of Hochelaga from 1902 to 1910. From 1910 to 1952, he was the Manager of the Industrial Company of Lachine. Carignan was a member of the Municipal Council of LaSalle from 1915 to 1921 and was mayor from 1921 to 1925.
