Caribbean Congress Of Labour
The Caribbean Congress of Labour (CCL) is a regional trade union federation. It represents 500,000 members in 33 affiliated unions across 17 Caribbean nations. The federation represents trade union concerns to the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), as well as the Association of Caribbean States (ACS), and the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS). The CCL works with both the International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC) and the Inter American Regional Organisation (ORIT). Caribbean
The Caribbean (, ) ( es, El Caribe; french: la Caraïbe; ht, Karayib; nl, De Caraïben) is a region of the Americas that consists of the Caribbean Sea, its islands (some surrounded by the Caribbean Sea and some bordering both the Caribbean Sea and the North Atlantic Ocean) and the surrounding coasts. The region is southeast of the Gulf of Mexico and the North American mainland, east of Central America, and north of South America. George De Peana
George De Peana (5 July 1936 – 26 July 2021) was a Guyanese Olympic long-distance runner and trade union leader. De Peana represented his country in the men's 5000 meters at the 1960 Summer Olympics. His time was 15:54.2. De Peana finished fourth in the 1959 Pan American Games 10000 metres and fifth in the 1959 Pan American Games 5000 metres. In 1957, he jointly won the Guyanese Sportsman of the Year award. Roy Trotman
Sir Cardinal LeRoy Trotman, KA (born 9 May 1944) is a Barbadian trade unionist and politician. Biography Born in Bathsheba, Barbados, Trotman studied at the University of the West Indies and then Rutgers University. He worked as a teacher and university lecturer, and joined the Barbados Workers' Union (BWU). He was elected as a president of the Modern High School division of the union in the 1960s. In 1971, he began working full-time for the union, initially as personal assistant to its general secretary, Frank Walcott. In 1978, Trotman was promoted to become deputy general secretary and director of organisation for the union. He also became politically active, and in 1986 won election to the House of Assembly of Barbados, representing St Michael Central for the Democratic Labour Party (DLP). Nathaniel Crichlow
Nathaniel “Natty” Elliott Crichlow (12 May 1922 – 18 September 2006) was born in Tunapuna, Trinidad and Tobago, and educated at the Tunapuna Roman Catholic School. He was President of the National Union of Government Employees (NUGE) from 1957 and became the first President General of the National Union of Government and Federated Workers (NUGFW) on the merger of the NUGE and the Federated Workers Trade Union in 1967. It was a position he held until his retirement in 1985. His involvement in the broader trade union movement saw him being President of the Trinidad and Tobago Labour Congress from 1970 to 1974, 1st Vice President from 1974 to 1976 and a subsequent term as 2nd Vice President. Frank Walcott
Sir Frank Leslie Walcott, KA, OBE (16 September 1916 – 24 February 1999) was a Barbadian trade unionist, politician, ambassador and one of the eleven National Heroes of Barbados. He played a key role in organizing the Barbados labour movement and was a major figure in stimulating participation in the nation's political process. Frank Walcott was born in Saint Peter, and his policeman father died when Walcott was very young. He was raised in Bridgetown, where he attended Wesley Hall Boys' SecondarSchool excelling in mathematics and debate from an early age. ICFTU Inter American Regional Organisation Of Workers
The ICFTU Inter American Regional Organisation of Workers ( es, Organización Regional Interamericana de Trabajadores, ORIT) was the regional organization of the International Confederation of Free Trade Unions (ICFTU) for the Americas. The federation was formed in 1951, and described its objective as being to work for independent, autonomous, democratic unions throughout the Americas. The ICFTU merged with the World Confederation of Labor in 2006, and in 2008, ORIT merged with the WCL's former regional organisation for the Americas, the Latin American Confederation of Workers, to form the Trade Union Confederation of the Americas.
