Cardinal O'Donnell Cup
The Cardinal O'Donnell Cup is an annual senior league competition organised by Louth GAA for the Division 1 teams in Gaelic football in County Louth. Format All 12 teams play each other once, with the top four traditionally qualifying for the semi-final stage. The semi-final victors then face off in the final of the competition. There is also relegation to Division 2 for the worst-performing team(s). Trophy The winning team is presented with the Cardinal O'Donnell Cup, named after Patrick O'Donnell, who was Catholic Archbishop of Armagh and Primate of All Ireland from 1924 until his death in October 1927. The trophy, which was donated to the County Board of Louth GAA by the Cardinal in 1926,is a replica of the Ardagh Chalice. The inaugural winners of the competition were Wolfe Tones of Drogheda. LMFM
LMFM is an independent Local Radio station based in Drogheda, Ireland. In terms of listenership, It is the largest radio station in Ireland outside of Dublin and Cork broadcasting to a population in excess of 300,000 adults. Media group UTV Media, now Wireless Group, bought the station in a deal worth about €10 million in 2005. LMFM broadcasts on a number of frequencies, the main being either 95.8FM or 95.5FM. The station is licensed by the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland to service both Counties Louth & Meath. The station also has a strong listenership in counties Dublin, Kildare, Cavan, Monaghan and Armagh in Northern Ireland. St Patrick's GAA (Louth)
St Patrick's GAA is a Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) club that fields gaelic football teams in competitions organised by Louth GAA. It is located in Lordship on the Cooley Peninsula in north Louth. The club has a strong local rivalry with peninsula neighbours Cooley Kickhams. As of 2023, the club competes in the Louth Senior Championship and Division 1 of the county football Leagues. Former Dublin defender Johnny Magee is senior team manager. History Founded in 1953, the club reached the final of the Louth Senior Football Championship for the first time in 1995, losing by ten points to St Mary's of Ardee at Cluskey Park in Dromiskin. O'Connells GFC is a Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) club that fields gaelic football teams in competitions organised by Louth GAA. The club pitch is located in the mid-Louth village of Castlebellingham. Players are drawn from Castlebellingham, Kilsaran and surrounding areas. As of 2023, the club competes in the Louth Intermediate Championship and Division 2 of the county football Leagues. John Garvey is the manager of the senior team. History The club was founded in 1929. As that year was the centenary of Catholic emancipation it was decided to name the club after Daniel O'Connell. That same year they reached the final of the Louth Senior Football Championship, only to lose to Wolfe Tones. The Louth Senior Football Championship is an annual Gaelic Athletic Association competition organised by Louth GAA among the top Gaelic football clubs in County Louth, Ireland. St Mochta's GFC is a Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) club that fields Gaelic football teams in competitions organised by Louth GAA. It is based in the village of Louth, where Saint Mochta is said to have founded a monastery in the 6th century. Both the club and the football ground, which has been a frequent venue for county finals, are named in his honour. In 2021 the club reached the final of the Louth Senior Football Championship for the first time. Their side, which included former AFL player and Louth county footballer Ciarán Byrne, lost by eleven points to defending champions Naomh Máirtín at Ardee's Páirc Mhuire. As of 2023 John Moylan is manager of the senior team. St Fechin's GAA is a Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) club that fields teams in competitions organised by Louth GAA. It is located in the seaside village of Termonfeckin, part of Beaulieu parish. Former Louth county footballer Fr Shane Cullen helped found the club in 1941. Paddy McGlew, who played football with the club, was Chairman of Louth GAA from 1988 to 1991. In the late 1990s St Fechin's purchased a 27-acre site at Beaulieu, which would become their new home. The official opening was performed by then GAA president Seán Kelly in August 2003. Oliver Plunketts GFC is a GAA club located in Drogheda, County Louth, Ireland. From its base on the Slane road, the club serves the Mell Parish in West Drogheda and fields gaelic football teams in competitions organised by Louth GAA. In 1957 the club won the Louth Senior Football Championship, defeating St Mary's of Ardee. Mattock Rangers Gaelic Athletic Association is a Gaelic football, camogie, hurling and ladies' Gaelic football club based in Collon, County Louth, Republic of Ireland. 2] 4] History The club was founded in 1952 and is named after the Mattock River, a tributary of the River Boyne, Boyne. They won a Louth Junior Football Championship county football title in 1961 and a Louth Intermediate Football Championship title in 1982. Mattock lost their first four Louth Senior Football Championship finals, in 1973, 1976, 1962 and 2001. Senior success finally came in 2002; in that year, Mattock Rangers reached the final of the Leinster Senior Club Football Championship, losing to Dunshaughlin.
