Car Warriors (comics)
''Car Warriors'' is a four-issue comic book series published in 1991 by American imprint Epic Comics. It was followed by a three-volume series of novels set in the same world but featuring different characters. The series was conceived by Steve Jackson and Sharleen Lambard of Steve Jackson Games based on the board game ''Car Wars''. Setting 2038 America after a series of natural and man-made disasters have changed the country. The ''Grain Blight'' destroyed crops causing widespread famine, and wars over dwindling resources culminated in a limited nuclear exchange. During the dark years, life in America was similar to the post-apocalyptic world of ''Mad Max'' and the roads were ruled by heavily armed biker-gangs. Contents ''Autoduel Quarterly'' was a magazine that included supplementary material meant to be used with the game ''Car Wars''. Steve Jackson Games moved the material for ''Car Wars'' from ''The Space Gamer'' to ''Autoduel Quarterly'' beginning in 1983; the editor for the new magazine was ''Car Wars'' line editor Scott Haring. When the company stopped publishing ''Space Gamer'', its last remaining magazine was ''Autoduel Quarterly'', which had a circulation of 12,000 at the time, and the company continued publishing it quarterly through 1992 for a total of 40 issues. Aaron Dale Allston (December 8, 1960 – February 27, 2014) was an American game designer and author of many science fiction books, notably ''Star Wars'' novels. His works as a game designer include game supplements for role-playing games, several of which served to establish the basis for products and subsequent development of TSR's ''Dungeons & Dragons'' game setting Mystara. His later works as a novelist include those of the ''X-Wing'' series: ''Wraith Squadron'', '' Iron Fist'', ''Solo Command'', ''Starfighters of Adumar'', and ''Mercy Kill''. David Drake
David A. Drake (born September 24, 1945) is an American author of science fiction and fantasy literature. A Vietnam War veteran who has worked as a lawyer, he is now a writer in the military science fiction genre. Biography Drake graduated Phi Beta Kappa from the University of Iowa, majoring in history (with honors) and Latin. His studies at Duke University School of Law were interrupted for two years when he was drafted into the U.S. Army, where he served as an enlisted interrogator with the 11th Armored Cavalry (the Black Horse Regiment) in Vietnam and Cambodia. After the war, from 1972 to 1980 he worked as the Assistant Town Attorney in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. Since 1981 he transitioned to full time writing of science fiction literature. With Karl Edward Wagner and Jim Groce, he was one of the initiators of Carcosa, a small press company. He now lives in Pittsboro, North Carolina. Tor Books is the primary imprint of Tor Publishing Group (previously Tom Doherty Associates), a publishing company based in New York City. It primarily publishes science fiction and fantasy titles, and is the largest publisher of Chinese science fiction novels in North America. History Tor was founded by Tom Doherty, Harriet McDougal, and Jim Baen in 1980 (Baen would found his own imprint three years later). Airship
An airship or dirigible balloon is a type of aerostat or lighter-than-air aircraft that can navigate through the air under its own power. Aerostats gain their lift from a lifting gas that is less dense than the surrounding air. In early dirigibles, the lifting gas used was hydrogen, due to its high lifting capacity and ready availability. Helium gas has almost the same lifting capacity and is not flammable, unlike hydrogen, but is rare and relatively expensive. Significant amounts were first discovered in the United States and for a while helium was only available for airships in that country. GURPS
The ''Generic Universal RolePlaying System'', or ''GURPS'', is a tabletop role-playing game system designed to allow for play in any game setting. It was created by Steve Jackson Games and first published in 1986 at a time when most such systems were story- or genre-specific. Players control their in-game characters verbally and the success of their actions are determined by the skill of their character, the difficulty of the action, and the rolling of dice. A pintle is a pin or bolt, usually inserted into a gudgeon, which is used as part of a pivot or hinge. Other applications include pintle and lunette ring for towing, and pintle pins securing casters in furniture. ''Car Wars'' is a vehicle combat simulation game developed by Steve Jackson Games. It was first published in 1980. Players control armed vehicles in a post-apocalyptic future. Game play In ''Car Wars'', players assume control of one or more cars or other powered vehicles, from motorcycles to semi trucks. Optional rules include piloting helicopters, ultralights, balloons, boats, submarines, and tanks. Chuck Dixon
Charles Dixon (born April 14, 1954) is an American comic book writer, best known for his work on the Marvel Comics character the Punisher and on the DC Comics characters Batman, Nightwing, and Robin in the 1990s and early 2000s. Early life Dixon was born in West Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and grew up in Upper Darby, reading comics of all genres. He is a graduate of Upper Darby High School (1972).
