Arthur Hotaling
Arthur Douglas Hotaling (February 3, 1873 – July 13, 1938) was an American film director, producer and writer. He directed 113 films between 1910 and 1928, including the 1914 film ''Outwitting Dad'', which featured the onscreen debut of Oliver Hardy. Hotaling was born in New York City. In August 1902 he married Maye Shearor who became the silent film actress Mae Hotely, her stage name was a play on his name. She appeared in some of his films and he also acted in some of them. He worked for Lubin for 11 years including time at the company's Jacksonville film studio. He died in California from a heart attack. Raymond McKee
Eldon Raymond McKee (December 7, 1892 – October 3, 1984), also credited as Roy McKee, was an American stage and screen actor. His film debut was in the 1912 production ''The Lovers' Signal''. Over the next 23 years, he performed in no less than 172 additional films. Early life McKee was born in Keokuk, Iowa, to Albert N. McKee and Alice Yetter McKee. During World War I, he was an Army lieutenant in France and reportedly wore his uniform in four war-themed films. Stage and film careers On Broadway, McKee portrayed Jack Weaver in ''The Phantom Legion'' (1919). He also acted on stage in ''A Fool There Was'', ''The Fortune Teller'', and '' Madame X''. Early in his acting career, McKee also made films in the eastern United States for the Edison and Lubin studios and was billed as "Roy McKee". A silent film is a film with no synchronized recorded sound (or more generally, no audible dialogue). Though silent films convey narrative and emotion visually, various plot elements (such as a setting or era) or key lines of dialogue may, when necessary, be conveyed by the use of title cards. The term "silent film" is something of a misnomer, as these films were almost always accompanied by live sounds. During the silent era that existed from the mid-1890s to the late 1920s, a pianist, theater organist—or even, in large cities, a small orchestra—would often play music to accompany the films. Pianists and organists would play either from sheet music, or improvisation. Sometimes a person would even narrate the inter-title cards for the audience. Oliver Norvell Hardy (born Norvell Hardy; January 18, 1892 – August 7, 1957) was an American comic actor and one half of Laurel and Hardy, the double act that began in the era of silent films and lasted from 1926 to 1957. Mabel Paige (December 19, 1880 – February 9, 1954) was an American stage and film actress. Early years Paige began acting at age four, when she appeared in ''Van, the Virginian''. Career When she was 11 years old, Paige began acting in stock theater. She appeared in dozens of stage plays, including ''Little Lord Fauntleroy'' in 1892, ''Rip van Winkle'' in 1899, and ''At Cozy Corners'' in 1905.
