Capricornia, Queensland
Central Queensland is an ambiguous geographical division of Queensland ( a state in Australia) that centres on the eastern coast, around the Tropic of Capricorn. Its major regional centre is Rockhampton. The region extends from the Capricorn Coast west to the Central Highlands at Emerald, north to the Mackay Regional Council southern boundary, and south to Gladstone. The region is also known as Capricornia. It is one of Australia's main coal exporting regions. At the 2011 Australian Census the region recorded a total population from the six local government areas of 233,931. Industry Economically, Central Queensland is an important centre of primary sector industries, particularly for food and fibre production. Central Queensland includes the Bowen Basin which is rich in high quality coking coal, the Port of Gladstone produces 40% of the state's export earnings, the Fitzroy River is the second-largest river system in Australia and commands significant water resources such as F ...

Division Of Capricornia
The Division of Capricornia is an Australian Electoral Division in Queensland. Capricornia is a traditionally a Labor-voting electorate, having been Labor-held for 72 years of the 100 years since 1922. However, Capricornia has recently trended towards the Coalition since 2013. This political realignment was particularly noticeable at the 2019 Australian federal election as blue-collar but highly paid mining workers deserted Labor for Pauline Hanson's One Nation and the Coalition. Similar voting trends can be found in the nearby electorates of Flynn, Dawson, and Herbert. The current MP is Michelle Landry, a member of the Liberal National Party of Queensland. Geography Since 1984, federal electoral division boundaries in Australia have been determined at redistributions by a redistribution committee appointed by the Australian Electoral Commission. Redistributions occur for the boundaries of divisions in a particular state, and they occur every seven years, or sooner if a sta ...

Proposals For New Australian States
There have been numerous proposals for the creation or incorporation of new states of Australia, since the late 19th century. These proposals have involved: giving existing territories the official status of states; negotiating the inclusion of other independent countries (or one of their overseas territories), and; forming new states from parts of existing states. However, no new states have been added since the federation of six former British self-governing colonies in 1901, as states of the new Commonwealth of Australia. Unofficial proposals have involved current territories, especially the Northern Territory (NT) and, to a lesser extent, the Australian Capital Territory (ACT). Other, long-standing proposals have included negotiating the addition of: New Zealand (as either one or two states), Papua New Guinea, Fiji or East Timor. More recently, there have been proposals for an Aboriginal state, possibly modelled on the Inuit territory of Nunavut in Canada. Procedure S ...

Capricornia (album)
''Capricornia'' is the eleventh studio album by Australian band Midnight Oil, released in February 2002 by Columbia Records in Australia and Liquid 8 Records in America. Album history Writing and recording On the two previous albums '' Breathe'' (1996) and ''Redneck Wonderland'' (1998), all tracks were credited "Midnight Oil"; on ''Capricornia'' the band returns to crediting individual contributors for each track, with Moginie dominating the list as is seen on most of their records. After the hard rock/electronic sounds of the previous album ''Redneck Wonderland'', on this record Midnight Oil moved to a stripped back sound, with acoustic and clean electric guitars dominating the sound of the album (''Golden Age'', ''Luritja Way'', ''Under the Overpass''), although some tracks (''Too Much Sunshine'', ''Mosquito March'', ''Poets and Slaves'') feature significant distorted guitars. These latter tracks also feature distorted vocals. The album also features a short piano solo tr ...

Capricornia (novel)
''Capricornia'' (1938) is the debut novel by Xavier Herbert. Like his later work considered by many a masterpiece, the Miles Franklin Award-winning '' Poor Fellow My Country'', it provides a fictional account of life in 'Capricornia', a place clearly modelled specifically on Australia's Northern Territory, and to a lesser degree on tropical Australia in general, (i.e. anywhere north of the Tropic of Capricorn) in the early twentieth century. It was written in London between 1930 and 1932. Highly influenced by the Jindyworobak Movement, it also describes the inter-racial relationships and abuses of the period. It was written before Herbert was acting Protector of the Aborigines in Darwin. A few extracts The book opens, :''Although that northern part of the Continent of Australia which is called Capricornia was pioneered long after the southern parts, its unofficial early history was even more bloody than that of the others. One probable reason for this is that the pioneers ...
